1908:
The James Boys in Missouri debuts. Chicago bans the film, representing the first official incident of local film censorship in the US.

1940:
Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca opens nationwide. Rebecca was the only Hitchcock film to win the Best Picture Oscar.
1972:
Fritz the Cat opens. This is the first cartoon to be rated X. Ralph Bakshi writes and directs. After being refused rights to the material by creator Robert Crumb, Ralph Bakshi appealed to Crumb's wife, who had power-of-attorney. Crumb's wife consented.
