1973:
Having premiered at the New York Film Festival October 14th of the previous year, Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Tango in Paris opens nationwide in the US. Starring Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider, the film opens with an X rating for graphic sexual content. The film is banned in Italy, where obscenity charges are filed against Bertolluci, Brando, Schneider and United Artists.
