Sharing a birthday, if little else, screen legends Marlon Brando and Doris Day are both born today. Doris begins life as Doris Mary Ann Von Kapplehoff in Cincinnati, Ohio, whilst Brando begins brooding in Omaha, Nebraska.

1976:

Le Vieux fusil wins Best Film at France's first Cesar Awards.

1978:

The glass is at best half-full for 1977's The Turning Point, as it is shut out in each of its 11 Oscar-nominations, making it the most nominated film to fail to win any.
