2004:
Michael Moore's controversial documentary Farenheit 911 wins the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. The film, which examined the links between the Bush and bin Laden families, was seen as having won as much for its politics as its art. Moore's work received a 15 minute long standing ovation at its screening.
