Imagine the movie Navy SEALs but with real life Navy SEALs rather than the desiccated corpse of Charlie Sheen. In a nutshell, this is Act of Valor.

After SEAL Team 6 infiltrated Osama Bin Laden’s compound and assassinated the terrorist, Americans celebrated the heroics of these Navy SEALs, causing their popularity to ascend. Hollywood rushed to greenlight competing projects capitalizing upon this newfound adoration. Act of Valor distinguishes itself by eschewing conventional Hollywood actors for those trained in the Navy SEALs way of life.

What this means in terms of Act of Valor as a movie is that the acting is amateur-ish by definition because most of the people involved are not professional actors. The storyline, however, is imbued with realism thanks to the participation of people willing to pull back the curtain and demonstrate what the life of a Navy SEAL is like. This should appeal to a lot of people, and BOP expects Act of Valor to be a very popular movie in the flyover states that Hollywood rarely targets effectively. (David Mumpower/BOP)
