On the Big Board
Position Staff In Brief
39/166 David Mumpower One of my favorite films of the 1990s is A Thing Called Love. To my complete astonishment, this movie is both thematically similar and almost as emotionally engaging. 2005's most pleasant surprise.

Digg Button
Brier (Pell James) has achieved some measure of success as a model in New York City, but her real dream is to become an actor. Thanks to the support of her caustic casting agent and mother figure (Carrie Fisher), Brier is able to get a spot in a Los Angeles acting class that has only very limited space and is highly sought after. There, she becomes friends with another wannabe actress (appropriately portrayed by hoedown lover Ashlee Simpson).

One day while she is out prowling the city and learning about the local music scene, Brier encounters a singer/songwriter named Luke (Steven Strait). After working for years without getting any sort of record deal, Brier and Clea decide to help him - though he's totally unaware of the work they are doing on his behalf.

The girls take it upon themselves to create a ton of hype for their friend - LA style. His profile rises in the music industry, and the demands of his emerging music career begin to take their toll on his personal relationship with Brier. The two can't deny that there has always been a spark between them, but fame may prove to be a huge sticking point that cannot be overcome. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
