1932:

Peter O'Toole, star of such films as Lawrence of Arabia and My Favorite Year, is born in County Galway, Ireland. O'Toole is awarded an honorary Oscar for his distinguished career in 2003.

1976:

Metropolis director Fritz Lang dies in Beverly Hills, California
