Legendary director Billy Wilder is born in Sucha, Austria-Hungary (later known as Poland)


Formerly the Studio Relations Department, The Production Code Administration comes into being, the de facto censorship body governing American films. The Production Code held considerable influence over the content of film during its 30-plus-year existence. In 1968, the PCA was abandoned in favor of the MPAA rating system in use today.
