The Battle of the Bulge begins. Hollywood character actor Charles Durning is injured during the battle. Durning earns three Purple Hearts and a Silver Star for his military service.

Warner's cartoon Rabbit of Seville, starring Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd, and directed by Chuck Jones, is released. The cartoon is based on music from Rossini's opera Barber of Seville.
2000:
Battle Royale, controversial for its violence, opens in Japan
