Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman wed. Reports that the bridal registry consisted entirely of gourmet popcorns and salad dressings have never been proven true.

1959:

Walt Disney's animated feature film Sleeping Beauty is released.

1964:

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb opens. James Earl Jones makes his screen debut.
