You mean that fat obnoxious guys usually *don't* have really hot wives?

On the Big Board
Position Staff In Brief
35/166 David Mumpower A warm hug of romanticism from start to finish.
41/60 Les Winan A safe, boring film that lasts about 30 minutes too long. Will Smith needs a challenge. Not good for Eva Mendes when Amber Valleta out acts her.

Admit it, you have friendster.com bookmarked. It wouldn't even surprise me if you have the Yahoo! personals and adultfriendfinder.com in your folder as well. Everyone loudly professes a loathing of any type of dating service. So how then do we explain how many of them have a massive database of customers?

Hitch tells the story of a doctor who appreciates this irony. He has spent untold hours developing a system to match everyone up with their soul mate. In only three dates!

As would be the case was this a real story, innumerable journalists see this circumstance as a career advancement opportunity. Anyone able to prove this doctor a fraud would be the It Reporter of the moment.

Since this is Hollywood, though, the situation is a bit more complicated. You see, the doctor is the charismatic and handsome Will Smith, while the journalist is the impossibly voluptuous Eva Mendes. With two such cults of personality, the only possible conclusion is romance. They might butt heads at first as they match wits, but everyone knows they're going to wind up nekkid and sweaty inside of 90 minutes.

The concept is one of the better recent Meet Cute ideas to float around Hollywood and the lead actors are certainly an impressive duo. It is the director that sells the film's pedigree, though. Andy Tennant, fresh off of the blockbuster success of Sweet Home Alabama, has agreed to do another romance. He already has Ever After, Anna and the King and Fools Rush In on his resume, so this is possibly his only area of expertise. (David Mumpower/BOP)
