As if the University of Colorado didn't have enough problems what with the "sex scandals" involving their football team, now Universal Pictures will release this documentary about what happens to seven guys from the school when they are selected to go on a craaaaazy spring break in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

If this premise sounds familiar, that's because New Line Cinema attempted the exact same thing with the critical and box office bomb The Real Cancun in April of 2003. Like that movie, "Drunken Jackasses" will feature plenty of nudity, alcohol, sex, debauchery and decadence. And like The Real Cancun before it, it will have a sort of clean-cut guy who wants nothing more than to experience "boobies." "The Quest" of the title will refer to his mission to lose his virginity at some point during the vacation.

In fact, a specific press release for the film describes the seven guys as follows: Bryan ("the Alpha male"), Hans ("the funny guy"), Matt ("the one with the girlfriend back home"), Johnny Kansas ("the quirky guy"), Kyle ("the player"), Ghertner ("the ninth-year senior") and Eddie ("the virgin, who's on the biggest quest of all"). Fortunately, none of them is labeled as "football player."

Although both The Quest and The Real Cancun were initially scheduled to hit theaters at nearly the same time, New Line grabbed the earliest release date and Universal balked at putting something so similar in theaters in quick succession. In hindsight, that decision was happily fortuitous. The Real Cancun performed dismally at the box office, earning a grand total of $3.8 million. It was definitely savvy for Universal to set themselves as far apart from that film as possible; however, movie-goers probably aren't dumb enough to be fooled. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
