Jack Bauer has only 24 hours to prevent an assassination while trying to rescue his kidnapped daughter...

No, wait. Different project.

Columbia Pictures bring us 24 Hours, which may very well be confused by some with the Keifer Sutherland television series, 24. Similar in name, both projects at least partially concern a kidnapping.

The film 24 Hours stars Stuart Townsend and Charlize Theron as well-to-do parents whose daughter, played by Dakota Fanning, is abducted. The upshot of the plot is that the parents try to turn the tables on the kidnappers, who are certain of their plan.

24 Hours brings together recognizable, though not necessarily bankable, names. Townsend is coming off Queen of the Damned, though the attention that film received was largely due to the circumstances surrounding the passing of his co-star, Aaliyah. Theron's resumé to this point consists mainly of lesser-performing films. Theron is one of those actors who seems to be involved in more projects than is actually the case, only appearing in around 20 films since her debut in 2 Days in the Valley in 1996.

The most visible among the stars is Mr. Six Degrees himself, Kevin Bacon, cast as one of the kidnappers. His counterpart in crime is Courtney Love, who continues to favor acting over her music career. This is Love's first notable role since injury sidelined her from taking part in John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars.

Luis Mandoki (Angel Eyes, Message in a Bottle) directs from a script by Don Roos and Greg Iles, based on the latter's novel. (Calvin Trager/BOP)

Sony has gone with the name Trapped as opposed to 24 Hours, probably in an effort to distinguish the film a bit. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

Following its name change, Trapped is now set for a September open. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
