Back in September 2000, Project Greenlight was launched as a joint venture with LivePlanet, Miramax Films and Television, HBO, and Sam Adams. The intention was to give up-and-coming filmmakers money to make their dreams come true. Project Greenlight held a contest where the winning writer gets to make his or her film with a guaranteed minimum budget of $1 million, distribution in theaters by Miramax Films, and a television series produced by Miramax Television for HBO that documents the filmmaking process.

Pete Jones' Stolen Summer script was selected as the winner of the contest from more than 10,000 entries. Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Chris Moore and Billy Campbell, president of Miramax Television, will serve as executive producers for the project.

The story is about a Catholic boy and a Jewish boy. When the Jewish boy finds out he's dying, he works with his friend to figure out how he can make sure he gets into heaven. Among the stars of the film are Aidan Quinn, Bonnie Hunt, Kevin Pollak, and Brian Dennehy.

The 13-episode HBO series about the making of this film is set to premiere in Winter 2001. Miramax has set a tentative release date for Stolen Summer to be in theaters March 2002. (Calvin Trager/BOP)
