37/98 David Mumpower Fun cast revels in an uneven but warm movie written by BOP fave Malcolm Lee.
84/196 Max Braden I thought I'd seen bad reviews of this one. It wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't tedious like some of his other projects.

Digg Button
BOP staff members have very soft spots in their heart for movies by writer/director Malcolm D. Lee. It all started when Undercover Brother found its way into theaters, and we found ourselves in love. It's a funny, well-intended flick that never gets enough love, as far as we're concerned.

Lee's follow-up to Undercover Brother, Roll Bounce, wasn't a huge hit, but it had plenty of heart. Sure, a movie completely centered around roller skating sounds silly, but it had something special - a character named Sweetness. No, he wasn't a fabulous actor, but he had a presence onscreen. And that soundtrack is something we listen to regularly.

Now, Malcolm D. Lee is behind the camera for a film known as Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. The movie has a ridiculously talented cast, including Martin Lawrence, Michael Clarke Duncan, Mike Epps, Cedric the Entertainer, James Earl Jones and Mo'Nique. Frankly, Lawrence could use a movie like this, as he really has been out of the picture since Bad Boys II.

In the film, Lawrence stars as a talk-show host who leaves his Southern family behind to become a self-help guru with all the trappings of success. He has plenty of cash and a beautiful fiancee, and is living the dream he had always hoped for.

When his parents ask him to come home for their 50th anniversary, he takes along his 10-year-old son and fiancee, with plans to show them that he has become something really special. He is surprised, though, when his visit causes him to reevaluate the things he thought were important. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
