Juwanna Mann is actually the name of the lead character's alter-ego which he creates in order to join the WNBA after the NBA suspends him for life for "bad boy" behavior. As silly as that premise sounds, the movie will probably be even sillier. Since it stars some unknowns, the movie will have to have some really hot ads to do well.

Traditionally, comedies like this do moderate business but the prospects of this movie just do not seem that great. Its greatest task is to appeal to an audience outside its target audience. The success of movies targeted at the young African-American demographic is strongly based on their appeal to their marketability outside this demo. Another challenge is selling the quality of the film to the audience. With the constant moving around of the film, all signs point to a low quality product.

We can look at the box office for movies such as Trippin', B.A.Ps, 3 Strikes, Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood, CB4 and Foolish to see this type of movie at its worst. On the other side of the coin we can look to the success of Martin Lawrence in Big Momma's House and Ice Cube's hit Next Friday as a ceiling for the possible success of this film. Still, it is highly unlikely that Juwanna Mann will get the push or have the same hype as the last two films. More will be known as the movie draws closer. (Walid Habboub/BOP)
