This British film is a remake of the 1974 Burt Reynolds film The Longest Yard. Of course the sport has been changed to soccer. On a historical note, when The Longest Yard was originally released in England, the title was The Mean Machine.

Vinnie Jones stars as former soccer star Danny Meehan who is now in prison for a drunken assault on a police officer. The prison's warden (David Hemmings) pushed hard to get Meehan assigned to his prison. He's looking for help in training the prison guard's soccer team to the Prison Guards Soccer Championship. He's had threats from different people not to help the guards' team, but he doesn't want to have a hard time in the slammer either.

Meehan gets a suggestion that he train an inmate team to play a "warm up" game against the guards. This looks like it's the best way for him to keep on everyone's good side. But is he going to be able bring together this out of shape, untalented bunch and take them to victory? Well, if I told you that, you wouldn't have to see the film.

If you get a chance to see this film, it looks like it will be well worth your time. Even if you've never seen the original, this remake should stand on its own pretty well. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
