What is the Salton Sea? A Google search reveals the following about this lake near San Diego: "Some people believe the water is clean and safe, while others think it is a cesspool of sewage and other pollutants." You can almost smell the noir, can't you?

Sure enough, The Salton Sea is a crime thriller starring Val Kilmer as a man who is too frozen with fear to act as someone kills his wife. Desperate to prove himself to not be a coward, this man enters the drug world to avenge her death. In the process, he encounters a group of people who are never what they seem, as he begins to become involved with a new woman, played by The Game's Debra Unger, whose current boyfriend beats her on a regular basis. He also meets undercover narcs who aren't exactly a great reflection on their police department, and he keeps bumping into the vicious Pooh Bear, played by Men in Black's main villain, Vincent D'Onofrio. The film looks to be a dark exploration of the themes of cowardice and redemption and as such, looks to have somewhat limited box office potential. (David Mumpower/BOP)
