Bill Paxton directs his first full-length feature with Frailty, a film that Hollywood Reporter describes as Se7en meets The Shining. Written by first-time scribe Brent Hanley, the story focuses on an FBI manhunt for a serial killer who calls himself God's Hand. A man named Fenton Meeks, played by Matthew McConaughey, walks into the offices of the agency and claims that his brother, Adam, is responsible for the murders. It seems that when Meeks and his brother were children, their father, played by Paxton, believed he was able to identify demons in people and set out to eradicate this plague. One of the sons saw him as a hero, while the other saw him as purely evil. Since the movie is a suspenseful thriller, you can be certain that it will take a number of twists and turns before the end.

The story is presented in non-linear fashion, using flashbacks to tell about the Meeks boys' disturbing childhood. To date, Frailty has been bounced around the release schedule several times, which is generally a danger sign as far as studio confidence goes. It remains to be seen how much support Lions Gate will throw behind the film, but given the dark subject matter and somewhat middling star power, it is probably best compared to similar films of the genre, such as The Gift and A Simple Plan. Frailty has been pushed back again, this time to the month of April (it has had multiple dates planned, including February 1st and March 15th of 2002 thus far). Stay tuned to see if it actually manages to stay there. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

Surely Frailty will eventually hit theaters, right? It recently was pushed back again, though this time it was only by a factor of one week. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
