This filmic and musical interpretation of the Joan of Arc story hails from Hungary. The movie is told in operatic form and was written directly for the big screen.

In this modern update of the Joan of Arc story, the tale centers on a drug addict named Johanna. She's been involved in a terrible road accident and becomes a patient at a hospital. The staff is able to save her, and the group soon realizes that their young charge has nowhere to go. One of the young doctors is attracted to her, and convinces the other staff members to go ahead and take her on as a nurse - provided he gives her some training for the job.

Johanna begins her work at the hospital and is soon performing miraculous cures on the patients there. The thing is, it seems that she is accomplishing these amazing feats by having sex with the male patients. Although the people there recognize that she does have a gift, they have difficulty reconciling the good deeds she is performing with their gut feeling that she is a tramp. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
