Denzel Washington plays a corrupt cop. A bad guy. That fact alone could spur interest in this September 21st release. On the other hand, Ethan Hawke (!?) cast as a wide-eyed rookie on his first day as an undercover narcotics cop and partner to Denzel may stretch incredulity to painful levels. But no matter, with rapper/actors Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre (think the soundtrack will feature some rap and hip-hop?), and veteran action tough-guys like Tom Berenger and Scott Glenn, there should be plenty of draw for teens and twenty-somethings above and beyond the mainstream urban appeal.

Other credits for Training Day include director of Bait and The Replacement Killers, Antoine Fuqua, working with the screenplay written by David Ayer, of recent breakout surprise The Fast and the Furious fame. If abetted with a credible ad campaign targeted towards the appropriate demographics, Training Day could be at least as big as the recent Exit Wounds, and maybe a whole lot bigger. (Cal Hubbard/BOP)

Warner Bros. has elected to move Training Day to an October 5th release from September 21st because they are uncomfortable with media availability for promotion of the film in the aftermath of the tragedies in New York City and Washington, D.C.
