'So what's the best part about being in prison?'

Digg Button
After a funeral for some children who were brutally sexually assaulted and murdered by a serial killer, traveling salesman Vinicio Cepeda (Damian Alcazar) is making his way home in his truck and accidentally hits and kills the young brother of one of the victims. The boy's father leads an angry mob to exact its own revenge, and they nearly lynch Vinicio right in front of his pregnant wife and adopted son. TV star Manolo Bonilla (John Leguizamo), who is in town from Miami to cover the murders, intercedes on Vinicio's behalf and saves him.

Even so, Vinicio is jailed for manslaughter, and the father of the boy Vinicio accidentally killed is arrested for assault. Vinicio faces the hard reality that there is no chance he could survive prison. To save himself, he attempts to cut a deal with Manolo. Vinicio will give the reporter information about the serial killer if Manolo will help Vinicio out by doing a story about his unjust arrest. Vinicio tells Manolo that there is another body at the mass burial site where the children were discovered that was not uncovered on the initial police search. Manolo goes to the site by himself and finds the body. His producer and cameraman are alarmed by his decision to bury the body again, with no intent to notify the police.

Though Manolo believes Vinicio is the serial killer, Vinicio claims that he met a hitchhiker who confessed to the crimes. If Manolo is to develop the story of a lifetime, he's going to have to work outside his journalistic integrity and keep a number of secrets from the law.

In the end, notions of good and evil are blurred. Is the serial killer the worse villain, or is it Manolo whose crimes are inexcusable? (Kim Hollis/BOP)
