Ashley Judd has been having a busy career making two kinds of movies; on the one hand, romantic comedies and "womens pictures"' where women are women and men are idiots, and on the other, thriller/detective stories, generally teamed with an older, wiser black veteran. In this case, it's the latter, with Morgan Freeman replaced by Samuel L. Jackson (with whom she last starred in A Time To Kill). So this time, we mix 'em together a little; she's a cop who ends up playing detective when her past comes back with a vengeance. As in someone is killing off her old exes one by one, and ya know, the other cops just might think she did it. And did you know that her dad was a serial killer? Hmmmmmm....

Of course, Ashley Judd is a Nice Girl, so that's impossible. So the Whodunit is pointed around, including at her new beau, Andy Garcia. Of course, Garcia's career has been bouncing around from hits like Ocean's 11 and duds like Just The Ticket, so he's not really a factor. Philip Kaufman (no relation to Donald) directs, which (considering his odd but distinguished track record) has to be considered a plus. I just want to see Jackson quote Ezekiel as he whips out a purple light-saber and saves the princess - er, Judd. (Jim Rittenhouse/BOP)

The title has been changed from The Blackout Murders to Twisted. Ahhh, from mediocre to completely generic, much like the previous Ashley Judd movie Someone Like You. (Jennifer Turnock/BOP)
