A retired British jewel thief and a disillusioned French jazz singer meet in Morocco, each wishing to forget the past and each having foresworn affairs of the heart.

Jeremy Irons plays the jewel thief, who has amassed his fortune through cunning and chicanery, charming his way into the vaults of some of the largest jewelry houses in Europe. He has embarked on a round-the-world cruise on his yacht more in an effort to escape his past than to elude police. His layover at a four-star Moroccan hotel brings the beautiful insouciant singer into his life, and love grows between them even as they resist it. But complications inevitably ensue, as the police begin to take an interest in the jewel thief, past romantic partners come to plague the jazz singer, and both our protagonists begin to suffer from mysterious black-outs for which they have no explanation.

This French film is set for a limited release the first of August, and has all the earmarks of a classic art-house romantic drama. Its director, Claude Lelouche, is no stranger to this terrirory. Director of the classic A Man and a Woman, Lelouch has mined the romanitc drama on the art-house circuit throughout his career, and Paramount Classics will likely highlight this connection in its marketing campaign. The film debuted at Cannes in 2002 and has appeared at several film festivals and in varoius countries since, enjoying gneerally positive reviews. Given the positive critical reaction and the pedigree of the director and male lead, And Now...Ladies and Gentlemen should enjoy a nice art-house run and may even be remembered come Oscar time.
