The stand-up comedy film seems to be having a sort of mini-resurgence. After the success of The Original Kings of Comedy, the genre obviously must seem to have all the makings for financial success. They're comparatively cheap to make, considering that you generally only have one set to deal with and only one or just a few cast members. Martin Lawrence gets into the act this summer with Runteldat, so you would figure that Jerry Seinfeld, arguably the most successful stand-up comedian in recent history, would be another natural choice.

Comedian isn't a filmed version of one of Seinfeld's stand-up performances, however. Instead, it is a documentary that covers his tour that took place after his sit-com ended its successful run. The same team that made his American Express commercials followed him on tour for over a year and filmed the goings-on with a digital camera. While some of the onstage routine will be featured, the main emphasis will be the backstage action and life on the road. Along the way, some of Jerry's friends like Chris Rock, Garry Shandling, and Colin Quinn will stop by to visit. (Dan Krovich/BOP)
