If what film festival audiences are saying is true, this is one of the most powerful and graphic movies you'll ever see.

The film is based on a true story of four POWs (Kiefer Sutherland, Robert Carlyle, Ciarán McMenamin, and James Cosmo) in a Japanese camp during World War II. They are forced to build the infamous Death Railway through the jungles of Thailand. One of the prisoners creates a college in the camp's morgue as a refuge from their wretched situation. The prisoners engage in teaching and philosophical discussions regarding life in the camp. We see the full range of emotions from both the prisoners and their captors.

The film had its world premiere at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, and has been playing to awestruck audiences at film festivals around the world. It was even nominated for Best Feature Film at the Hawaii Film Festival. If you get a chance to see this film, don't miss it. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
