classic never goes out of style. Another tale from the mind of Edgar Allan Poe, The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar, is brought to life once again on the silver screen. Michael A. Goorjian and Ron Marasco make their feature-film debuts writing the screenplay for this picture, while Gil Cates, Jr. takes over the directing duties.

This is the story about hypnotist Dr. Pretory (Jason Carter), who convinces the family of a dying millionaire (Howard Hesseman) to give consent to have the man hypnotized to find out what happens in the afterlife. However, the plan backfires, as M. Valdemar's "life" on Earth is extended and ends up causing problems for the boyfriend (Neil Patrick Harris) of his heir, Daisy (Jessica Capshaw).

Over a hundred of Poe's stories, poems, and other works have been turned into movies. This film had its world premiere at the 2002 South by Southwest Film Festival. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
