I know that many of you have been wondering to yourselves, "What is Johnny Knoxville going to do now, since Jackass won't have another season on MTV?" OK, probably not many of you, but there must be someone out there. The answer is he's going to make a Jackass movie.

If you're not familiar with the show, Knoxville (real name Philip Clapp) and his crew do some crazy stunts on an extreme version of Candid Camera. Here are a couple examples for you. They did a series of stunts where they tested the effectiveness of an athletic protector (AKA cup) against various impacts. They used a tennis ball launcher and a baseball bat among their testing devices. One extreme prank they did was to put an empty car seat on the roof of a car and then drive off.

There has been very little information leaked about the filming of this movie. It appears that it will just be an extended version of the TV show. There have been reports that they have been filming this quickly and quietly for theatrical release. One rumor is that Brad Pitt, who is a fan of the show and has appeared twice, may show up in the film.

I don't believe that it's going to do big numbers at the box office. The hardcore following will show up the first week of release, but it should drop off very rapidly after that. (Marty Doskins/BOP)

The Jackass crew is in full-on promotion mode, appearing on everything from MTV's Cribs to co-hosting Mancow's Morning Madhouse (a syndicated radio program based out of Chicago). Paramount is showing a fair amount of confidence in the film's potential for success, with a preliminary rough venue count of 2,400. Though it's not a film that will likely appeal to anyone over 30 years of age, they're doing a fantastic job of hitting their target audience, and even people who initially might have scoffed at the film are being turned around by the commercials. Johnny Knoxville simply has an odd appeal that defies understanding. With a budget of $25 million, the movie is going to have to have a big first weekend, since the subsequent audience drop-offs in the following weeks are likely to be quite severe.

Expect plenty of goofy stunts and gross-out gags that go far beyond what would have been allowed on the television series, and a number of likely candidates for the Darwin Award to step up for contention shortly thereafter. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
