Since the stunning opening weekend of Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert, movie makers have attempted to capitalize on the global popularity of musicians. There has been an average of a concert film each year since then with some noted failures (The Jonas Brothers and Glee) and one additional massive hit, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.

Hollywood as an industry has a tendency to remember the blockbusters while forgetting the bombs. As such, any rock star with enough celebrity (i.e. twitter followers) is likely to get their own movie. Enter Katy Perry, the ruling diva of the day (sorry, Lady GaGa). Perry has torn up the record charts over the past several years, and she also achieved a level of notoriety with her relationship to Russell Brand.

Katy Perry: Part of Me chronicles the period when Brand and her were going through a divorce behind the scenes as Perry launched a world tour. Like the Justin Bieber movie, Part of Me is equal parts biopic and concert film. Shot in 3D, the Katy Perry movie may prove a year or two too late or it will demonstrate that she is a hybrid media darling who can sell tickets in any medium. (David Mumpower/BOP)
