Director Spike Jonze and screenwriter Charlie Kaufman worked together on the film Being John Malkovich. This time they bring us a multi-story movie about growing orchids and writing a screenplay. Don't think those could possibly be related? Well, they are.

The orchid portion is based on the book The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean. The book tells the true story of plant dealer John Laroche. Along with three Seminole Indians, he devised a plan to cultivate the rare Ghost Orchid. They would sell the plants to orchid lovers who would pay exorbitant prices for this rare flower.

The screenplay portion tells the struggles of Kaufman to adapt this story to the big screen. He ends up with a bad case of writer's block and seeks the help of his brother, Donald. In real life, Charlie does not have a brother Donald, even though he is credited as a co-writer of the film.

Nicolas Cage has been signed to star as both brothers. He will use a prosthetic suit to put on weight to portray the brothers. On another casting note, a few of the members of the cast of Being John Malkovich, including John Cusack, Catherine Keener, and director Spike Jonze, appear in this film as themselves. They recreate portions of the filming of Being John Malkovich that appear here. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
