Position Staff In Brief
16/98 David Mumpower Grrrreat spy thriller totally re-shapes the landscape of the story halfway through. I was impressed by that piece of storytelling.
28/196 Max Braden Cheadle looks a little bored, but Saïd Taghmaoui is great, as he was in a similar role in Three Kings.

Political/espionage thrillers have not been all that successful as of late, but we really like a lot of the names involved with Traitor, which actually originated with an idea from Steve Martin.

Don Cheadle stars as Samir Horn, an American Muslim ex-solider who may be linked to numerous terrorist organizations around the world. Guy Pearce is the FBI agent working on tracking him, but as he gets deeper and deeper into the case, what he finds could lead to uncovering an international conspiracy. Also starring are Jeff Daniels, Neal McDonough and Paulino Nunes. Directorial duties and screenplay credit go to Jeffrey Nachmanoff, his first major directorial effort. His previous biggest credit was as co-author of 2004's The Day After Tomorrow.

While the trailer was recently released and it looks stylish and thrilling enough, and again, we really like most everyone involved, nobody here is a big draw, these types of films have been tough sells as of late and the Labor Day weekend release date isn't a very big vote of confidence from Overture Films. That's three pretty big strikes so if this one excites you, better catch it quick upon its release. (Tim Briody/BOP)
