Kekexili tells the true story of volunteers who are attempting to protect antelope from poachers in the mountain region of Tibet. The story begins with Beijing journalist Ga Yu arriving at the camp of the Kekexili Mountain Patrol, where he is witness to a Tibetan funeral and a village in that is in mourning. Upon learning that patrol volunteers have disappeared and that rare antelopes have been killed, he determines that he will investigate the story.

Ga Yu joins a patrol that is assigned to 40,000 square kilometers of wilderness. He soon learns that illegal hunters hide in caves and track the patrol members, who are fighting against the men who are looking to kill them. Although Ga Yu is initially nothing more than an observer, he soon finds himself personally involved in the fight. He comes to realize that the patrol members see Kekexili as their own homeland in addition to a safe haven for the endangered antelopes. He sees that their faith is their guiding beacon, and takes his own role in the struggle. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
