From director Michael Haneke, who has previously brought to the big screen such diverse stuff as Funny Games, The Piano Teacher and The Time of the Wolf, comes this allegorical thriller.

The movie centers on Georges, an upper-class French man who hosts a television literary review. He and his wife suddenly begin receiving anonymous packages. These packages contain videos of Georges with his family, shot secretly from the street. The videos show their front porch, the inside of their home, and other portions of the family's life. Additionally, there are strange, creepy drawings with a meaning that is unclear. Needless to say, Georges and his wife have no idea who may be sending the tapes.

Soon, the footage on the tapes begins to be more and more personal. The suggestion behind them seems to be that the person has known Georges for a long time. Although Georges and his wife feel deeply imperiled and try to get the police involved, they can't do much as there has been no actual threat.

Hidden, also known as Caché in its native France, was the recipient of numerous awards at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. In addition to being nominated for the Golden Palm, Haneke won Best Director and the film won the FIPRESCI Prize and the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
