The world famous collie makes another big screen appearance in this remake of the 1943 movie Lassie Come Home, which starred Roddy McDowall and Elizabeth Taylor. In pre World War II England a family, facing extreme financial hardship, is forced to sell their beloved dog to the Duke of Rudling. Lassie is transported 500 miles to the Duke's castle in the remote northern coast of Scotland. The clever dog manages to escape and begins the trek back to the home she loves and greatly misses avoiding vast dangers along the way.
It's hard to go wrong with a cute dedicated dog tale, and this should be a good fall choice for kids, though it's likely to find more success on DVD than in theaters. The cast is actually quite strong for what seems like it could have been a throwaway kiddie flick. (Dan Krovich/BOP)
