Directed by Vondie Curtis-Hall, Waist Deep is a thriller that plunges its hero, 02 (Tyrese Gibson) into an extreme life-or-death situation. A former con who is trying to go straight for the sake of his son, 02 finds himself forced to go back to the wrong side of his law when the child is kidnapped in a carjacking and in the hands of a notorious crime lord (The Game).
02 seeks out help from his cousin, Wanna Be (Larenz Tate), but the cousin is caught in the middle somewhat and is torn between conflicting loyalties. 02 must seek out the assistance of a street-smart hustler named Coco (Meagan Good). As time begins to run short for saving the life of the child, 02 and Coco's activities heat up as they break the law in every sense of the world in an effort to save him.
After Tyrese's breakthrough with Four Brothers, audiences will likely be ready to see him in another film that puts his charming good looks front and center. Look for this film to fill a definite niche and cater to a willing target demographic. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
