Fifteen or 20 of the people reading this might have some passing familiarity with the character of Jiminy Glick. For me, I recognize him as the grotesque Martin Short character who has a show that I sometimes see in commercials on Comedy Central while I'm watching South Park. Somehow, some way, Mr. Glick is now the central character in his own movie, albeit one that is receiving limited release only.

Jiminy Glick was first introduced as a character on the Martin Short Show, and eventually the fat, grotesque personality received his very own program on the aforementioned Comedy Central. In the show, which seems to borrow its concept heavily from Space Ghost: Coast to Coast or even Fernwood 2nite, Glick's modus operandi is to allow his ridiculous incompetence and brash incompetence to shine through as he interviews various celebrities. His show also features a band leader, Adrien VanVoorhees the marvelous Michael McKean) and occasional commercial and movie parodies. It's not easy to escape a format once you're used to it, I suppose, and since Short is a veteran of both Saturday Night Live and SCTV, that makes some sense.

For the movie version of the character's adventures, we see Glick back in his apparent beginnings. An entertainment critic for a Butte, Montana television station, he heads off to the Toronto Film Festival with hopes of finding fame amongst the beautiful people. Quickly, his dreams of becoming a celebrated interviewer of the stars come true as he gets the opportunity to interview Ben DiCarlo, a young star who is known for his secrecy. Quickly, Jiminy is the talk of the town. If you're an actor and looking to be interviewed, Glick is *the* guy. And so it is that a fading Hollywood star named Miranda Coolidge (Elizabeth Perkins) arranges to be at the other end of Jiminy's microphone.

Later, she is found in his bed, and our "hero" becomes embroiled in a murder mystery full of all of the key Hollywood elements - sexy ladies, scandalous events, gorgeous celebrities, and even…rappers. The film will receive a limited release and will probably soon be seen shortly thereafter in heavy rotation in the Comedy Central movie lineup. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
