Kings and Queen tells the stories of two former lovers as their lives are shown in parallel. Nora (Emmanuelle Devos) is a 35-year-old single mother who works as a director at an art gallery. She has been dealt a difficult hand in life - one husband passed away, her second marriage failed, and then a lover committed suicide - but she is working hard to rise above those tragedies through her success in her work and marriage to a wealthy businessman.

Nora's aforementioned ex-husband, Ismael (Mathieu Amalric) is a neurotic musician who has descended into slobbery. When he is mistakenly admitted to a mental hospital, his life turns into a nightmarish comedy of errors. He battles fiercely with the psychiatrist at the clinic (Catherine Deneuve); however, his strange activities - particularly a pharmacy raid with his drug-addicted attorney - earn him a ten-day stay that might mean he'll be worse off than when he came into the place.

Soon, Nora learns that her father is terminally ill, and finds herself wondering about the future of her young son. She determines to finds Ismael and locates him at the mental institution to try to enlist his aid. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
