The Tortilla Curtain

Delaney Mossbacher is a successful writer. He and wife Kyra live out a contented existence in Topanga Canyon, California. Their life changes dramatically when the scribe runs over a man. The suburbanite and Cándido Rincón, the illegal alien he has struck with his car, find their lives intertwined.
Rincón and his wife America are homeless Mexican immigrants whose way of life could not be more foreign to the Mossbachers. The chasm between the ideologies of these two clans allows for an examination of American beliefs about such concepts as inaction leading equalling bigotry and the idea of defined social responsibility.
This movie is the theatrical adaptation of the book of the same title by noted author T. Coraghessan Boyle. He also wrote The Road to Wellville, which would later be adapted into a Bridget Fonda/Matthew Broderick film. The film stars Kevin Costner and Meg Ryan as the Mossbachers. The other two key roles are currently not cast. (David Mumpower/BOP)
