BOP's own Dan Krovich once famously coined this phrase: "Animals eating humans = $$$." For proof of this maxim, look no further than the Jurassic Park franchise. All three movies have earned at least $180 million in domestic receipts. All three have opened to at least $47 million in their first three days of box office. The total worldwide performances of Jurassic Park, The Lost World and Jurassic Park III equal roughly $1.9 billion in worldwide ticket sales.

In shocking news, a fourth film has been greenlighted.

When you have a license to print money, it would be foolish not to grab a couple of printer cartridges and get into Rob Schneider "Making Copies" mode. The kind folks at Amblin Entertainment, particularly a producer by the name of Spielberg, are not idiots. They went to Universal Studios and pointed out how many people had ridden the Jurassic Park ride in the past calendar year. They also pointed out how many people bought tickets to see Jurassic Park III at a time when the prevailing point of view was that the format was tired. That means we will be getting a lot more of the formula of Dan's I quoted above. Dinosaurs are going to be snacking on people in 2005. The only real mystery is in the how.

The plot has been kept shrouded in mystery for the most part but since this is the Internet, leaks are an inevitability. It appears that a new type of dinosaur has escaped the jungles of the island where InGen did its original cloning research. They have broached the coast of Costa Rica, creating considerable chaos on a group of people who weren't expected to spend the month being invaded by dinosaurs. What scientist would be better to call on during this time of need that legendary researcher and sometimes adventurer Dr. Alan Grant (a role Sam Neill is expected to reprise for the third time).

As happened in the Michael Crichton book, The Lost World, Grant unearths the revelation that the dinosaurs have all been infected with a potent disease known as DX. It was an earlier version of this plague which originally made the dinosaurs extinct some 65 million years ago. Even worse, the disease appears to be communicable to humans. If Grant and his team of scientists are unable to stop the infection from spreading, the human race will suffer the same fate to which its Jurassic predecessors once succumbed.

While fighting to stop the spread of a potentially fatal disease, the group must also combat the overpopulation of the dinosaur islands. While the beasts have become infected, it has not stopped them from reproducing at a rate that would make your average bunny rabbit proud. Stopping the rate of growth while also preventing the further spread of a plague is a tricky proposition, so Grant calls for the service of the scientist best prepared to address this situation, one Dr. Ian Malcolm (again played by Jeff Goldblum).

The other actor rumored to make a return appearance is Sir Richard Attenborough, who plays John Hammond, the founder of the Jurassic Park theme park. Also, Keira Knightley of Bend It Like Beckham and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl has confirmed she has been approached about playing a lead role in the movie. She indicates one of the two parts she could choose would be the granddaughter of Hammond while the other would apparently be a much meatier part. BOP votes for whatever puts Keira onscreen most often. (David Mumpower/BOP)
