Pete Kilmer has been in the comics retail industry for ten years as a member of Downtown Comicsin Indianapolis. Downtown Comics is one of the Midwest's largest comic retailers with over four locations in Indianapolis. All opinions are his own, and they cannot be bought with free swag. Beer and a walk on role on The Office to steal Karen from Jim and I'm bought...
Hope all is well with everyone this week. Hopefully by now you had a chance to see 30 Days of Night the movie. I really enjoyed it and hope they knock out the sequels pretty soon (Dark Days and Return to Barrow are excellent follow-up trades). I LOVED the Green Lantern Corps and Superman-Prime (Sinestro tie-in) last week. Let's get into it for the week…
52 AFTERMATH THE FOUR HORSEMEN #3 (OF 6) (I've been enjoying this series so far) ACTION COMICS #858 (This is my Pick for Book of the Week artist Gary Frank joins this book as Superman hooks up with the Legion of Super-Heroes, Geoff Johns said that since next year is the Legion 50th Anniversary we're going to see a lot of the Legion. And this is pure speculation on my part, but I suspect this is also build up for the upcoming Legion of 3 Worlds Storyline for next year) AMERICAN VIRGIN #20 (MR) ANITA BLAKE VH FIRST DEATH #2 (OF 2) (Anita fans can breathe a sigh of relief!) ANNIHILATION CONQUEST QUASAR #4 (OF 4) (We get the return of a long lost Cosmic Character from Marvel!) BATMAN #670 (*sigh* Morrison's story has really lagged, I hate to say) BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER LONG WAY HOME TP (if you missed the first five issues of the series, here is your chance to catch up!) COMPLETE 30 DAYS OF NIGHT TRILOGY HC (MAR078256) COUNTDOWN LORD HAVOK AND THE EXTREMISTS #1 (OF 6) COUNTDOWN TO ADVENTURE #3 (OF 8) COUNTDOWN TO FINAL CRISIS 26 COUNTDOWN TO MYSTERY #2 (OF 8) CRIME BIBLE THE FIVE LESSONS OF BLOOD #1 (OF 5) DAREDEVIL ANNUAL #1 (Matt hooks up with Black Tarantula as he gets out of prison. Good, gritty street level story of how a former villain has to try and fit back in the 'hood) DC INFINITE HALLOWEEN SPECIAL #1 DEATH OF THE NEW GODS #2 (Loved #1 can't wait to read #2) IMMORTAL IRON FIST VOL 1 TP (for you cheapskates this terrific trade is now in softcover, Ed Brubaker and Matt Fraction write a sweeping story that goes from the streets of NYC to legendary mountain hideaway where Iron Fist gained his power) IRON MAN #23 (Things go from bad to worse for Ol' Shellhead…when will people realize that Tony Stark is the man to save us all!) JACK OF FABLES #16 (MR) JSA CLASSIFIED #31 JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA #10 MOUSE GUARD WINTER 1152 #2 (OF 6) NEW BATTLESTAR GALACTICA PEGASUS ONE SHOT NEW X-MEN #43 ROBIN ANNUAL #7 SUB-MARINER #5 (OF 6) (So Namor has a son….ok….he regains his kingdom and the stakes between Atlantis and the US military continue to heat up!) SUPERGIRL AND THE LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #35 ( I'm really enjoying this series quite a bit. If you've been holding off on getting this, I'd highly recommend jumping on board before the legendary Legion writer Jim Shooter returns on it) SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL #8 (Can we put a stake in this series yet?) SUPERNATURAL ORIGINS #6 TRIALS OF SHAZAM #9 (OF 12) (Frickin finally!) ULTIMATE POWER #8 (OF 9) (The War between the Ultimate Universe and the Supreme Universe continues…what a blast!) WASTELAND #13 (MR) (NOTE PRICE) X-MEN MESSIAH COMPLEX ONE SHOT (kicking off the massive Xmen crossover that indicates a new mutant baby has been born, Ed Brubaker and Marc Silvestri have put together a pretty solid intro issue telling you who the players are and what the stakes are for the mutant race…color me very curious on how well this multi issue crossover does!)
That's it for this week….if you didn't pick up last week's The Walking Dead #43 (I think) is terrific look at what the Governor has done to brainwash his town and just what a twisted, sick person she is…if you haven't, I highly recommend that series by Robert Kirkman.

So yeah, I'm back….I apologize for the delay but in the last little article I wrote how I was going out to New Jersey to help care for my mom who has cancer. Well on the third day I was out there she passed away fairly quickly. Thankfully she was alert and in her proper faculties the night before when the whole family was over for a big dinner, so that was a great night for her. If I might take a minute to reminisce for a moment, I can't even begin to tell you what an effect my mom had on my life. I certainly wouldn't be here doing this little article or help run one of the top comic chains in the nation if not for her (and my father of course). She was a woman who didn't pull any punches and let you knew what was on her mind. She was also a woman that if you asked for help, you'd be surprised at the level of help she (and my father) were prepared to offer. Through struggles with school, some minor infractions with the law and a divorce, my mom was there to offer as much or as little help as needed. And I can't thank her enough.
Thanks for that…let's move into the comics! This by no means a complete list… ACTION COMICS #857 ANNIHILATION CONQUEST WRAITH #4 (OF 4) BLACK PANTHER #31 (The FF continue their bounce through realities) BLUE BEETLE #20 (A Sinestro Corp War tie-in..expect this one to sell out quickly) CABLE DEADPOOL #46 (Deadpool time travels back to early point of the FF's history) COUNTDOWN 27 (Ever since issue 31 this series has made giant strides in quality) COUNTDOWN SPECIAL THE FLASH 80-PAGE GIANT DAREDEVIL #101 (Brubaker keeps the punishment going for Matt and his wife) FLASH #233 GREEN LANTERN CORPS #17 (I can't wait for this issue!) JACK OF FABLES VOL 2 JACK OF HEARTS TP (MR) JUSTICE LEAGUE ELITE VOL 2 TP LEGION OF SUPER HEROES IN THE 31ST CENTURY #7 LONE RANGER #9 (Highly recommended retelling of the Lone Ranger story) LOVELESS #20 (MR) (If you liked Deadwood and The Unforgiven, this might be for you) MADAME MIRAGE #3 MOON KNIGHT #13 (Another issue that is damn near unreadable. Thankfully it's the last one before the new creative team takes over in Jan. Hopefully they'll save it. Otherwise stick a fork in this series cause it's done.) ROBIN #167 SHE-HULK 2 #22 (Peter David's 1st issue on this series, and it looks ambitious as usual) SHE-HULK VOL 5 PLANET WITHOUT A HULK TP STAR WARS 30TH ANNIV COLL VOL 9 HC BOBA FETT DEATH LIES STAR WARS CLONE WARS ADVENTURES VOL 9 TP (C: 1-1-2) STAR WARS DARK TIMES #6 (C: 1-0-0) STAR WARS KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC #21 (C: 1-0-0) SUPERMAN #669 SUPERMAN BATMAN #41 (What was once a must read series with top teams has slowly sunk down to a book that almost no ones cares about. Which I hate to say as there have been a lot of quality people on this series, but for whatever reason just haven't made it *click* after Jeph Loeb left) TEEN TITANS #52 (Sean McKeever is really getting a full head of steam on this book ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #115 UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS #2 (OF 8) WALKING DEAD #43 (I can't wait to read this one, this is my favorite series bar none right now.) WHAT IF PLANET HULK X-MEN #204 (if someone could tell me what the heck happened here I'd be grateful)
Yeah it's a short one this week, but there you go…
