And so we come to the end of the penultimate season of Game of Thrones. Very few players remain on the chess board - will we lose more in this season finale? You may know Jon Snow's real name, but how well do you know Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 7: The Dragon and the Wolf?

Wednesday, August 30

The lineup for the 44th Telluride Film Festival drops on Thursday night...

Viking Night: WarGames
It is with a mixture of sadness and pride that I confess to being old enough to have seen WarGames during its original theatrical run.

Tuesday, August 29
Movie Review: Step
The title of the documentary Step refers to so much more than the type of dance in which a person stomps their feet and claps their hands with force and authority.

Monday, August 28

Here we go, friends, the lightning round that recaps all of my convention experiences from 2012-2016.

Wednesday, August 23
How Well Do You Know: Hidden Figures
Hidden Figures, the Academy Award-nominated 2016 film based on the non-fiction book of the same name, is the story of 3 African-American women working at NASA during the 1960's race to space. Mathematicians Katherine Goble Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughan (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monae) used their incredible intellect to help get man into space while working in an organization that was predominantly made of up white men. With Virginia still being a segregated state, these women faced incredible challenges while being instrumental to the success of the space program. How well do you know the inspirational Hidden Figures?

Wednesday, August 23
Viking Night
For a movie called “Spacehunter,” very little of this movie takes place in space.

Tuesday, August 22
How Well Do You Know: Game of Thrones, S07E06: Beyond the Wall
Brave men are heading out beyond the wall. How many will return? If only Cersei wasn't such a jerkface, maybe people could be doing something about their White Walker problem. How well do you know Game of Thrones, Season 7, Episode 6: Beyond the Wall?

Tuesday, August 22
Review: The Hitman's Bodyguard
If Snakes on a Plane taught us one thing (and even that may be generous), it is this: People really, really like it when Samuel L. Jackson swears loudly.

Hidden Gems
Life. There is so much LIFE in this movie.

Monday, August 21
Overpaid Jerks: 8/14/17-8/20/17
A ceremonial pitch for the ages, tampering accusations, Williamsport baseball and overcoming cancer all figure into our sports recap quiz for the 34th week of 2017.

Sunday, August 20
Weekend Wrap-Up
Our two new wide releases this weekend included The Hitman's Bodyguard and Logan Lucky, and there was no reason to think either one of them would provide much intrigue.

Saturday, August 19
Friday Box Office Analysis
With the power of its leads, The Hitman's Bodyguard opens relatively well, saving a lazy August box office weekend.

Friday, August 18
Weekend Forecast
It's a real “dog days of summer” weekend, as a couple of genre films with limited prospects hit the theaters.

Thursday, August 17
This is So Last Week: 8/11/17-8/17/17
A much-watched trial comes to an end. So too does an incredible music streak. A tour is postponed and Netflix makes deals in our pop culture recap quiz for the 33rd week of 2017.

Thursday, August 17
How Well Do You Know: Doctor Strange
Another Marvel comic sprung from obscurity is Doctor Strange, a superhero who fights against the usurpers of the Dark and Mirror Dimensions. Originally the subject of controversy, Doctor Strange was one of the biggest game changers for Marvel Cinematic Universe with its amazing visuals and ethnically diverse casting. You may know the spells of the Book of Cagliostro, but how well do you know Doctor Strange?

Thursday, August 17
Movie Review: Dunkirk
With Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan proves once again that he’s one of the most ambitious directors working today.

Wednesday, August 16
Viking Night: Samurai Cop
Samurai Cop has earned, through no small amount of hard work, a hallowed spot on the Viking Night list of Worst Things Ever.

5 Ways to Comic Con
Here we are, folks. As of this latest version of the article, I am adding this new introduction to the original introduction while on the first day of my family vacation.

Tuesday, August 15
Review - Annabelle: Creation
Some things should stay dead.
Not ghosts and demons; they can do what they want. I’m talking about overextended film franchises.

Movie Review: Landline
What's good about Landline, the second major feature from Gillian Robespierre (the first being Obvious Child, unseen by me) is that it doesn't confine itself to any one category.

Monday, August 14
How Well Do You Know: Game of Thrones, S07E05: Eastwatch
Is Winter here yet? Is Winter here yet? Is Winter here yet? You may know the answer to this question, but how well do you know Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 5: Eastwatch?

Monday, August 14
Overpaid Jerks: 8/7/17-8/13/17

Sunday, August 13
Weekend Wrap-Up
Thank goodness we have Annabelle: Creation opening this weekend, or the box office would be in even more trouble than it is.

Saturday, August 12
Friday Box Office Analysis
Waking up the August box office, a $15 million Friday for the Annabelle sequel is right in line with the October 2014 opening day of the first film.

Friday, August 11
Weekend Forecast
In what is turning out to be a singularly dismal August at the movies, we get our best chance at a hit this weekend, but don't... get your hopes up.

Thursday, August 10
This is So Last Week: 8/4/17-8/10/17
Lolly interrupted, a new Sharknado, Netflix comings and goings and a rap/TV reference. All these figured into the last week in pop culture. We hope you were paying attention.

Thursday, August 10
Movie Review: The Dark Tower
I am not sure there has been a cinematic adaptation quite like this in our lifetimes.

Wednesday, August 9
Review: The Dark Tower
I do not count the vast Dark Tower series as one of my fandoms, but I understand that a great many people do.

Viking Night
I have a confession to make. I completely forgot that John Carpenter directed Starman.

Tuesday, August 8
How Well Do You Know: Game of Thrones, S07E04: The Spoils of War
With Lady Olenna and the Sandsnakes off the board, the game is now down to a few remaining players. You may be able to take Brienne on in a duel, but how well do you know Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4: The Spoils of War?

Tuesday, August 8
How Well Do You Know: Wonder Woman
Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is a character that need no introduction. She is one of the most awesome DC superheroes ever. From comic book panels to small screen to big screen, this mythology-driven entity defined true bravery, justice, and power. The same can be said for the anticipated 2017 film adaptation starring Gal Gadot. What else can we say? Wonder Woman.

Tuesday, August 8
The 400-Word Review: Detroit
In Detroit, director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal eschew a three-act structure in favor of a story which moves like a camera lens.

Movie Review: Atomic Blonde
Clearly relishing the role, Charlize Theron shines in the stylish, intermittently entertaining Atomic Blonde.

Monday, August 7

Friday, August 4

Spider-Man: Homecoming
The aptly titled Spider-Man: Homecoming, directed by Jon Watts, is the endlessly entertaining, if slight, solo debut of the title character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

July 2017 Box Office Recap
Given everything that has happened so far in 2017, do movies really register anymore?

August Forecast
Summer 2017 ends on an August of the old school, the kind that wouldn't look out of place in, say, 1992

5 Ways to Prep: Dark Tower
With the release of The Dark Tower, we are being offered a story that focuses on two different realities colliding.

Wednesday, August 2
Review: Lady MacBeth
The dark-as-pitch period drama Lady Macbeth invokes the name of Shakespeare’s most famous female, in part, to set your expectations.

Movie Review: Dunkirk
Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk reaffirms just how powerful the movies can be when it comes to placing viewers in the moment.

Viking Night
Spoiler alert - I freaking love Altered States.

Tuesday, August 1
How Well Do You Know: The Mask
It’s 1994, comic book movies were reaching the poisonous valley of box office prophet. Along came The Mask, based on a cartoony and albeit violent series, with its ground-breaking visual effects, bright colors, and hilarious lines from the green-faced crusader himself. So, let’s see if you know The Mask. (Seriously, the comics get super gory.)

Tuesday, August 1
Review: Atomic Blonde
Atomic Blonde is a cocktail of 2010s cool.

Movie Review: Dunkirk
Christopher Nolan frustrates me to no end. Dunkirk is simply his latest film that has many glimmers of a masterpiece, only to fall short in a key category.
