2006 Reader Awards: Best Actress
March 1, 2006
Readers picked Reese Witherspoon's performance in Walk The Line as the best of 2005, with a winning percentage of nearly 50% over runner-up Naomi Watts. On the next tier below Watts were Weisz and Williams' supporting roles.
This category provided the strongest consensus between readers and staff this year, as our own Calvin Award for Best Actress also went to Witherspoon. Looking at the next six finishers, each performance recognized by readers as one of the best of 2005 also resonated strongly with the BOP staff in either the Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress Calvin Award voting. Minor differences included our selection of Claire Danes' work in Shopgirl. Additionally, the Calvin Award winner for Best Supporting Actress, Amy Adams, finished 11th in the Reader Awards. We can still be friends, though.
