Hey, everybody! IT 2 is out in a couple of weekends! How about that? If you're looking for interesting box office news, I don't have much to share with you, though.

Our top film yesterday was Angel Has Fallen, a why-God-why sequel to the previous Gerard Butler movies Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen. Apparently people continue to enjoy seeing Morgan Freeman in peril, or maybe they just like the formula. This time, Butler's character is falsely accused of trying to assassinate the president and has to clear his own good name.

With a $7.9 million Friday, Angel Has Fallen should come in with right at $20 million for the weekend, good enough to give it the win. It'll be pretty much in line with the debut weekend for London Has Fallen, so I guess Lionsgate (the third studio in three films after FilmDistrict and Focus Features) will be happy enough here. The budget is just $80 million, and these "Fallen" films make a lot of money overseas.

Also new this weekend was Overcomer, a faith-based flick from Sony and AFFIRM Films. A movie about a football coach who transitions to coach cross country instead, this one comes from brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick, previously responsible for other films in the genre such as Fireproof, Courageous, Mom's Night Out, and War Room. It did just fine, earning $3 million yesterday. The weekend total should be right at $9 million, maybe even $10 million, as these projects can do well on Sundays

Ready or Not got started on Wednesday, and earned $3 million by the end of day on Thursday. The horror film with terrific reviews added $2.4 million yesterday, and it should finish the weekend with about $6 million. I thought this one might break out a bit more, but the budget was only $6 million, so I think audiences will support this one to profit by the time it exits theaters.

In other box office news, The Lion King crossed the $500 million mark on Wednesday, just a couple of days ahead of director Jon Favreau and Mufasa voice James Earl Jones becoming Disney Legends. Also, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood will pass Inglourious Basterds to become Quentin Tarantino's second biggest box office hit after Django Unchained.
