Disney has arrived to save us all from the box office blues, though perhaps not to the degree many were expecting.

Honestly, though, perhaps we've gotten jaded if an opening in excess of $120 million is disappointing. Toy Story 4 debuted yesterday with $47.4 million, including $12 million from Thursday night previews. That's the second-biggest Thursday showing for an animated film ever, behind only last year's juggernaut Incredibles 2.

At this point, Toy Story 4's Friday total is pacing behind Incredibles 2 and Finding Dory, though it is a bit ahead of Toy Story 3, a film that had a lot of anticipation and build up. Whether Toy Story 4 has been affected by the doldrums of 2019 or if it's just not a fresh enough franchise these days, it's going to pace behind the $130 or so that Disney was projecting, though not by much. The weekend total should be right at $125 million or so, which is obviously plenty good. It's 97 percent fresh at Rotten Tomatoes and has an A Cinemascore, and it should be the consensus family choice for the next several weeks, probably even in the face of Spider-Man.

Also new this weekend was Child's Play, featuring mark Hamill as Chucky. A reboot/remake/whatever of the 1980s horror film, this one earned $6.1 million, which is perfectly fine considering that the budget was something like $10 million. The weekend total will be around $15 million or so, and it's likely to get the bulk of its revenue from home video.

Finally, we had Anna, directed by Luc Besson. Without a Scarlett Johansson in the lead role, it wasn't going to be Lucy, and it earned just $1.4 million yesterday. It's yet another blah result for Lionsgate, though at least they have John Wick 3: The Wickening!

If you were wondering about Men in Black International, it fell a hefty 69 percent from last Friday's already meh result. With a $3.3 million Friday, we're looking at probably $12 million for the weekend. Yipes.
