Sure, it might be the end of April, but it sure does feel like summer.

Yes, we kicked off the summer box office season with a bang yesterday, as Avengers: Infinity War got started on Friday with a mighty $106 million. That's $25 million more than the original Avengers (2012), $21 million plus more than Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), and over $30 million more than this year's previous biggie, Black Panther. To say that this was a MASSIVE day is an understatement.

Now, the Friday number is less than that of the current opening weekend record holder, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. That film earned $119.1 million on its way to $248 million in its first three days. It is a bigger Friday than either The Last Jedi or Jurassic World, though. One thing to note is that the Friday number does include $39 million worth of Thursday night previews, though that doesn't take a lot away from the true Friday number. All of these other movies had Thursday sneaks, too. Note that The Force Awakens had $57 million, so it had a pretty good and inflated weekend number thanks to that amount.

Once all the box office is tallied, I'd estimate that Avengers: Infinity War will come in with $240 million, somewhat short of the opening weekend record, but pretty darned close. Disney is having a super great year. The interesting question will be whether the film holds up as word-of-mouth comes in. Infinity War has a solid rating at Rotten Tomatoes at 84%, though it's not at the high end that you'll generally see a lot of Marvel films. Cinemascores are an A, so die-hards loved it. Interestingly enough, the IMDb rating is actually 91/100. So, we shall see. I don't want to say much more for spoiler reasons.

Obviously, nothing else new opened, and pretty much everything else suffered in the face of Infinity War. The best of the bunch is A Quiet Place, which declined 49 percent from last Friday, but should even out a bit over the rest of the weekend to earn $12.5 million. The horror film by John Krasinski has made crazy bank, so no drop is going to be disappointing.

I do have to note that Super Troopers 2 had a massive, massive, massive drop from last Friday at 86 percent. This was expected and doesn't even matter, as the movie is already a money maker. It's going to earn about $4 million this weekend.

Be sure to come back tomorrow for our Weekend Wrap-Up with Tim Briody, where he'll chronicle the official estimates. The coming weeks don't bring much more than a Melissa McCarthy comedy, so it's all about Infinity War until Deadpool returns to theaters. It's Marvel's world. We're just living in it.
