Dwayne Johnson might hold the title belt on Friday, but John Krasinski and A Quiet Place will take it away again by the end of the weekend.

Yes, Rampage, the video game-based movie featuring the Rock, came in with Friday box office of $11.5 million. Honestly, in the world of films based on video games, this is just fine. None of them have ever been bona fide blockbusters, but they often do well enough to make some money back compared to their budgets. The catch, though, is that Rampage has a massive budget of $120 million compared to something like Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which only cost $40 million to make (and was terrible, admittedly, but that matters a lot less when you're dealing with fewer expenses.

The good news is that Rampage will probably have a decent audience overseas given the love for Johnson and giant apes smashing things. It's only 50 percent fresh at Rotten Tomatoes, but that's frankly a better number than I was braced for. Audiences actually like it - the Cinemascore is an A-. It has no chance at holding in the coming weeks with the release of Avengers: Infinity War on April 27th (and Super Troopers 2 next week - yeah!), so it will just have to take what it gets in these early days. For opening weekend, that number should be $30 million.

So, A Quiet Place will be our victor for a second weekend in a row. The rapturously reviewed horror film from John Krasinski earned $10.5 million yesterday, down just 44 percent from last Friday. That's a fantastic decline for a horror film, as most of them fall more than 55 percent and often go as low as 60 to 70 percent. We've got a nifty little box office story on our hands here, and A Quiet Place should earn $33.1 million for the weekend.

The weekend's other horror movie is from the Blumhouse cash machine, but it comes with the baggage of terrible reviews, a mostly unknown cast, and a fairly generic look and feel. Even so, it earned $8.3 million yesterday, which means it's an instant moneymaker given its tiny $3.5 million budget. Nothing wrong with that, huh? The weekend total will be $21.5 million, though I do wonder if Blumhouse wishes it were the company behind A Quiet Place.

Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs expanded to 1,939 locations and earned a tidy little $1.6 million. I'm one of Anderson's biggest fans, but I of course acknowledge that his quirk is destined to attract only a select few, especially when he's working in stop-motion animation like that of his previous (delightful) film Fantastic Mr. Fox. Look for a weekend total of $4.8 million.
