Previously on Survivor, a dude ALMOST made an amazing play. Michael had an Immunity Idol and gave it to one of his teammates, thereby preventing him from getting eliminated. Oh, wait. At the last second, he switched to another tribe mate who received no votes. The person he’d originally protected, Brendan, got all the votes from the opposing alliance and was eliminated from the game. Spinal Tap is right – there’s a fine line between clever and stupid.

It’s that kind of season.

Bradley, who hates and fears everything, is hateful and afraid after Tribal Council. He really believed that he was about to get voted out at Tribal Council, and he’s out to get the person who made him feel that way. That person is Michael, who lied pretty well about the fact that the idol could protect two people. Michael explains his position to the entire group, which really just makes Bradley and Co. realize that the 18-year-old is a much bigger threat than any of them anticipated.

For his part, Michael laments playing the idol wrong, because it means… let’s see, four, carry the three, seven… he and his alliance are on the bottom as far as tribal dominance. They need to make something happen… and fast.

Oh, hey! It’s already time for a Reward Challenge, which means, Hello, Probst! When Naviti sees that Brendan was voted out, they’re surprised, because a good player was voted out of a tribe that didn’t have a lot of them.

For today’s challenge, the Survivors will have to leap over some tables, drag around some sandbags, and then throw some bags at a target. Winning tribe gets pastries and coffee.

The race between the two teams is pretty close, with Naviti getting to the target practice portion of the challenge first. So, Chris is what can only be described as an accurate thrower. We’re talking Peyton Manning type abilities here. With this performance, Chris has really boosted his draft stock. We expect him to play for the Browns next year.

Naviti wins reward.

Actually, he was a pitcher for his college baseball team. So, yeah.

When it comes time to send someone to Ghost Island, Naviti agrees to let the other tribe draw rocks. Stephanie is the unlucky person in this case.

Chris takes a moment to gloat and pat himself on the back in a confessional for the camera. Ugh. He really is unbearable.

At Ghost Island, Stephanie doesn’t get to play any reindeer games. But she does take her time alone to regroup and find some inner strength.

James is excited that Chris is willing to work with the Malolo four. What he doesn’t know is that Laurel has already gone over to Dom to offer up her allegiance. Well, probably. We’ll see.

The pastries and coffee remind Donathan of home. He especially misses his grandmother, who had two strokes. Chris decides to take advantage of this moment to bond with Donathan. Chris’s mother is in assisted living, so he really relates to the fact that Donathan is feeling some guilt over being away from home and unable to care for his grandmother.

Even though Donathan knows that he and Laurel are meant to be working with Wendell and Dom, but he likes Chris. He’s not sure what to do. Probably it will come down to whether Chris or Dom is the bigger annoyance during the upcoming Immunity Challenge.

Speaking of which, Hello, Probst!

This challenge will involve racing out across a footbridge with a bodyboard to pick up a bag containing some puzzle pieces. Once they have the bag, their team will real them back in surfer style. Then, they have to open their bags, get their puzzle pieces, and solve the puzzle that says, “Ghost Island.”

Despite Malolo nearly drowning Desiree, the teams are neck and neck on this challenge, until it comes to the third bag. At this point, Chelsea from Malolo falls off the bridge and then loses her hold of the bodyboard. Thus, Naviti is easily back first with their puzzle pieces and they get started.

When Naviti starts their puzzle, Chris tells them that is says “Ghost Island.” Over on the other side, Bradley has figured it out as well. In the end, though, Dom and James are better at puzzles. Malolo will send someone to Tribal Council, which we suppose means it’s time to play “It’s Anyone But Michael.”

Speaking of which, Michael knows he’s backed into a corner. Much as he’d like to keep is Malolo group together, he says he’ll vote for either Jenna or Stephanie if it means he can stay in the game.

Some of the Original Malolo want to split up the two girls, Stephanie and Jenna. At this point, we see Jenna talk for pretty much the first time this season. Uh oh. Anyway, she flirts with Sebastian as a way to get herself in good with him, and it works. He “needs someone to braid his hair,” and Jenna says she can do that.

Meanwhile, Stephanie pleads her case with Bradley, who likes Stephanie and generally wants to play the game with her. So… no one can come to a consensus among the two women, and they’re once again back to Michael. They really won’t be able to win challenges without him because they’re pretty sucky, but he’s crying in confessional so we’re pretty sure he’s done.

The Original Naviti wonder if Stephanie might have gotten an advantage at Ghost Island, so Desiree goes through her bag. We HATE when players do this. It’s so invasive. Anyway, she doesn’t find anything, so they figure she can be a safe vote.

The sad thing is that the three original Malolo are all MUCH more likable than any of their current tribe mates. Ah, well.

Ultimately, they do elect to vote out Stephanie despite her pleas. We think that the Naviti 5 decided they’d like to win a challenge at some point, so Michael was important. We’re guessing that we will see Stephanie in a future season of Survivor assuming it lasts that much longer.
