To be issued with complimentary bottles of White-Out

Nocturnal Animals sucked like I expected it would from the trailer. - Max Braden, 6:07 pm
The joke on everyone is that an actor won a Golden Globe for Nocturnal Animals. - David Mumpower, 6:57 pm
Andrew Garfield: living proof that not all British men are dashing and suave. - Reagen Sulewski, 7:04 pm
Red carpet interviewers seemed to be especially interested in asking Hacksaw Ridge actors about Mel Gibson's sanity. 'Are you sure he's not terrible to work with?' - Max Braden, 7:06 pm
Michael Strahan paraphrased: John Legend, you had to play a musician on screen, was that hard? - Reagen Sulewski, 7:06 pm

Lucas Hedges got special permission to stay up on a school night for this. - Reagen Sulewski, 7:16 pm
Now on the red carpet: Ruth Negga's disembodied head. - Reagen Sulewski, 7:17 pm
I'm very suspicious that Janelle Monae is trying to sneak three other people into the ceremony under her dress. - Reagen Sulewski, 7:21 pm
Let's try. - Felipe Rosa, 7:22 pm
Sting will have none of your polite banter, thank you very much. - Reagen Sulewski, 7:25 pm
Isabelle Huppert: Lengthy, emotional description of her character's journey through recovering from trauma. Red Carpet Host: Your dress looks so pretty! - Reagen Sulewski, 7:27 pm
How many fish died to make Jessica Biel's dress? - Reagen Sulewski, 7:33 pm
Halle Berry's a bit too old for a Flashdance remake, don't you think? - Reagen Sulewski, 7:34 pm
Next up for Lin-Manuel Miranda: a Nobel Prize and the first footprint on Mars. - Max Braden, 7:37 pm
Dakota Johnson looks like an Oscar statuette. - Kelly Metz, 7:45 pm

In the reverse fashion, I'm looking forward to her taking the role of Amanda Waller to the stage for the Broadway production of Suicide Squad. - Reagen Sulewski, 7:47 pm

That homeless guy they got to play Casey Affleck cleans up... alright. - Reagen Sulewski, 7:55 pm
Sometimes I expect Keith Urban to brush aside his bangs and reveal that he's Martin Short. - Max Braden, 7:56 pm
Huh, when did Nicole Kidman ditch Keith Urban for Melissa Etheridge? You'd think that would have made news. - Reagen Sulewski, 7:57 pm
Gee, those screens with the movie posters on them are some high tech. What's the resolution, 4p? - Reagen Sulewski, 8:04 pm
Jessica Biel's career highlights are Best Female Performance at the MTV Awards for I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and second place in the Fangoria Chainsaw Awards for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Why does she always garner attention at the Academy Awards? Is it the work of Big Chainsaw? - David Mumpower, 8:05 pm
I can never see her and Timberlake together without thinking about that Onion piece that has him claiming he could destroy her and no one would care. - Reagen Sulewski, 8:07 pm
Damien Chazelle looks like he's very nervous about his bar mitzvah. - Reagen Sulewski, 8:07 pm
Michael Strahan actually makes Dwayne Johnson look small. - Max Braden, 8:14 pm
Fun fact: Dwayne Johnson eats a whole chicken breast every time they cut away from him. - Reagen Sulewski, 8:14 pm
I think Jeremy Renner's title card was the first I've seen that didn't define his involvement in tonight's program. It was just "Jeremy Renner." - Eric Hughes, 8:15 pm

Another fun fact: Mel Gibson's new partner is *ten* years younger than his oldest child. - Reagen Sulewski, 8:23 pm
Emma Stone: "Eww, a C-Lister just touched me!" - Reagen Sulewski, 8:24 pm
That means the next generation of Lethal Weapons has a 36-year spread. All kidding aside, I have trouble wrapping my head around the fact that a 36-year-old man has a one-month old half-brother. - David Mumpower, 8:25 pm
Justin Timberlake photobombing Emma Stone reminds me of Benedict Cumberbatch's pro-level photobomb; I'd love to see more of that. - Max Braden, 8:25 pm
Welcome to the umpteenth annual Box Office Prophets live Oscar blog! - Kim Hollis, 8:30 pm
And the telecast kicks off with the most famous nominee for Best Song, which also has little chance of winning its category. Welcome to the Oscars, everybody! - David Mumpower, 8:31 pm
“Can't Stop the Feeling” is a nice upbeat way to start the ceremony. It's this year's "Happy." - Max Braden, 8:31 pm
It's Justin Timberlake and the Solid Douche Dancers! - Reagen Sulewski, 8:32 pm
This performance has already created more happiness than the sum-total of seven of the nominees for Best Picture. - David Mumpower, 8:32 pm
Off to a fun start for the Oscars with Timberlake...now we need a Hugh Jackman run in! - Pete Kilmer, 8:32 pm

This is already my favorite Oscar telecast. - Kelly Metz, 8:34 pm
"Welcome to the 89th Academy Awards! La La Land wins everything, Trump sucks and the remainder of the show will be the in memorium reel. Good night everybody!" - Reagen Sulewski, 8:35 pm
We are here! My coworker is at Upper Orchestra next to Sound Mixing nominees who were told they'd get moved down for the award... - J. Don Birnam, 8:38 pm
I really hope this "feud" plays out all night. I love it. - Kelly Metz, 8:39 pm
"Amazon produced Manchester By the Sea - that was a fun movie, wasn't it?" - Jimmy Kimmel - Max Braden, 8:40 pm
That's three "You didn't see it" jokes in the first 10 minutes. - Reagen Sulewski, 8:42 pm
Someday Meryl Streep will be the Oscars new Jack Nicholson, sitting in the front row eating carrots and leering at the young meat. - Max Braden, 8:43 pm
A stunned silence falls over the BOP blog as Jimmy Kimmel absolutely crushes the opening monologue. What were the Vegas odds on *that*? - David Mumpower, 8:44 pm
Jimmy's gonna be found dead in an alley tomorrow morning. Don't mess with Meryl. - Reagen Sulewski, 8:44 pm
Meryl Streep is officially the Nicholson of Hollywood now. - Pete Kilmer, 8:44 pm
Of all categories this year, I think Supporting Actor frustrates me the most because not only will Ben Foster not win for Hell or High Water, he wasn't even recognized (by the Academy; he was #2 behind Jeff Bridges in BOP's Calvins Awards.) - Max Braden, 8:46 pm
Did Alicia Vikander fall into a vat of orange kool-aid, or...? - Reagen Sulewski, 8:46 pm
Here we go guys, early on if there is going to be a surprise it will be here. - J. Don Birnam, 8:47 pm
The Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor goes to Mahershala Ali. - Kim Hollis, 8:49 pm
What a week for this guy: first child born on Wednesday, won Oscar on Sunday. - Kelly Metz, 8:50 pm
Moral of the story: if you're the *first* winner, you can talk as long as you want and they won't play you off. Sorry, random technical award winner in the middle of the ceremony, you now get 12 seconds! - Reagen Sulewski, 8:52 pm
Marvel Comics/Netflix actor...Mahershala Ali scores an Oscar for another amazing project. He's been in a ton of great projects over the years, and it's terrific to see him win. - Pete Kilmer, 8:53 pm
I think that the art of acting would greatly benefit if all actors present and future would heed Mahershala Ali's words about serving the character - Jason Dean, 8:55 pm
The Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling goes to Suicide Squad. - Kim Hollis, 8:58 pm
Was that a music age check? Do you recognize / remember the Love Theme from St Elmo's Fire? - Jason Dean, 8:58 pm
The fact that I wanted to see more of Mahershala Ali in the film is a good indication of how good he was. Worthy winner in a strong field. - Felipe Rosa, 8:58 pm
The Oscars: where even basically the worst film of the year can get an award! - Reagen Sulewski, 8:58 pm
Warner Bros.: "Nailed it." - Max Braden, 8:58 pm
Say what you will about Suicide Squad, it looked terrific. - Pete Kilmer, 8:59 pm
Oscar-winner Suicide Squ...I can't say it. I just can't. - Kelly Metz, 8:59 pm
That goes to show how little I know! Best Makeup goes to the Most Makeup and the not-critically acclaimed Suicide Squad, and Supporting Actor to the expected one! - J. Don Birnam, 8:59 pm
So how long until the Suicide Squad: Academy Award Winner ads? - Jason Dean, 8:59 pm
It definitely had the better "weird things drawn on faces" than the other "weird things drawn on faces" movie, or the "wait, why was this nominated?" movie. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:00 pm
The Academy Award for Costume Design goes to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. - Kim Hollis, 9:01 pm
After three awards, Suicide Squad has more Academy Awards than La La Land. Do you believe in miracles??? - David Mumpower, 9:01 pm
It's been half an hour and La La Land hasn't won an award yet -- I dunno, they've got to be worried. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:01 pm
I'm not certain Colleen Atwood was actually in the building when she was announced considering how surprised she was. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:02 pm
That just screwed up a lot of Oscar ballots, eh?! - J. Don Birnam, 9:05 pm
I didn't expect a Rolex commercial to make me sad. RIP Bill Paxton. - Kelly Metz, 9:05 pm
The thing is that when in doubt, "most" does tend to win. I'm definitely kicking myself for not having the guts to predict Fantastic Beasts - J. Don Birnam, 9:05 pm
I'm annoyed that I swapped off from Fantastic Beasts, too. - Kim Hollis, 9:07 pm
A total whiff for the BOP crew in the predictions, too. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:07 pm
Fantastic! Katherine Johnson - Jason Dean, 9:09 pm
Hooray for science, and fact-based filmmaking! - Max Braden, 9:10 pm
The Academy Award for Best Documentary goes to OJ: Made in America. - Kim Hollis, 9:11 pm
At 7 hours and 47 minutes, this is the longest film to win an Oscar since the 2-days-long The Hours. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:12 pm
When Mel Gibson thinks your joke is in bad taste... - Reagen Sulewski, 9:14 pm
Kimmel is fearless. - Pete Kilmer, 9:14 pm
To win 12 Oscars La La Land has to have Ryan Gosling win - J. Don Birnam, 9:15 pm
A man who once headlined Wrestlemania is currently performing at the Oscars. That would seem to strange if someone who once headlined Wrestlemania wasn't currently POTUS. - David Mumpower, 9:15 pm
I'm reading these anti-Hours posts and making a long list. - J. Don Birnam, 9:15 pm
Dwayne Johnson is legitimately lighter in skin tone than Alicia Vikander tonight. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:15 pm
The Rock is wrong, the only thing that can unite the planet is the arrival of space octopi. - Max Braden, 9:16 pm
Kim: I know, so annoyed at myself. I went back to the handicap column and I had "Fantastic Beasts" as could win. One needs to listen less to the Oscar blogosphere and just go with instincts. - J. Don Birnam, 9:17 pm
When I was 16 years old I was *this* close to performing live at the Oscars. True fact, that. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:18 pm
16-year-old Auli'i Cravalho just got smacked in the face by a flag in the middle of a live performance and didn't miss a beat. In ten years, Mel Gibson's gonna marry that girl! - David Mumpower, 9:19 pm
Hooray for Auli'i Cravalho getting a chance to perform and not using the pop star end credit version. Auli'i Cravalho is way more composed than I was at as a teenager..she's performing at the Oscars...gets smacked with a flag..doesn't miss a beat - Jason Dean, 9:21 pm
I'd hate to get the seat behind Halle Berry tonight. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:23 pm
"And now, a president who believes in both arts and sciences, ladies and gentlemen please welcome the president of the academy those things: Cheryl Boone Isaacs." - Jimmy Kimmel - Max Braden, 9:24 pm
Call me crazy, but Kimmel is fine so far. - Felipe Rosa, 9:25 pm
Yes, but I've liked most of the last few hosts a lot more than other people. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:27 pm
The Academy Award for Sound Editing goes to Arrival. - Kim Hollis, 9:27 pm
La La Land is still at zero. The pollsters got it wrong again! - David Mumpower, 9:28 pm
Starving actresses are now wildly clawing open the candy containers for a few calories over the day's allotment. - Max Braden, 9:28 pm
Quebecois accents, represent! - Reagen Sulewski, 9:29 pm
The Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing goes to Hacksaw Ridge. - Kim Hollis, 9:30 pm
I mean of course I should have had these award winners reversed! How wrong could I be? - Reagen Sulewski, 9:30 pm
1st win, 21st Nomination..did I hear that correctly? Well done, sir. - Jason Dean, 9:31 pm
Arrival only won Sound Editing after deciding not to use the Heinz ketchup bottle for the squirty ink sounds. - Max Braden, 9:32 pm
The Color Purple still has its champagne on ice. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:32 pm
Well, I was right in ONE thing. It was either a sweep or nothing and you could try to pick ones and it was harder. Good for those who went smarter. - J. Don Birnam, 9:33 pm
Yeah, Kevin O'Connell is famously *that* guy who's been nominated forever without winning. First nominated back in *1984*. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:33 pm
Can we raise the mike for Vince? He looks like he's 7'3" out there. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:37 pm
Academy Award winner Jackie Chan! - Max Braden, 9:37 pm
Vince Vaughn of 10 years ago would *despise* Vince Vaughn of today. - David Mumpower, 9:38 pm
Remember when Vince Vaughn was the funniest guy on the planet? Neither do I. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:38 pm
The producers wisely decided to not let Jackie jump from the ceiling to the stage Lady Gaga-style. - Max Braden, 9:40 pm
After a little over an hour of the Oscars, my overriding thought is, "When is Game of Thrones back?" - David Mumpower, 9:40 pm
"It would be curious if this were an award for Best Actress in an opposing role" Daaaaaad! - Reagen Sulewski, 9:41 pm
I guess they are not showing clips from the Best Picture nominees this year? I could have sworn they scattered them throughout the ceremony. - Kelly Metz, 9:41 pm
A very fine introduction for the Supporting Actress nominees from Mark Rylance. - Max Braden, 9:42 pm
Indeed, Rylance was very insightful there. Now, inagine Stallone doing that. - Felipe Rosa, 9:43 pm
The Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress goes to Viola Davis of Fences. - Kim Hollis, 9:44 pm
This is such a strong category this year. - Kelly Metz, 9:44 pm
You know how when Dawson's Creek premiered, and we all said "hey, within two decades Jen is gonna have four Oscar nominations"? We made it just in the nick of time! - Reagen Sulewski, 9:45 pm
How To Get Away With An Oscar. - Reagen Sulewski, 9:45 pm
Viola Davis was actually 5th place in this category for BOP's Calvin Awards, which put Naomie Harris at #1. - Max Braden, 9:45 pm
Yes! Viola finally! Naomie probably deserved it, but it was Viola's time - J. Don Birnam, 9:45 pm
Suicide Squad's Viola Davis wins for Fences. - Pete Kilmer, 9:46 pm
Oh, what a beautiful winner Viola is. - Felipe Rosa, 9:47 pm
They're breaking out all the classic 80s movie ballads tonight. "Against All Odds"? - Reagen Sulewski, 9:56 pm
The segment on what inspired actors is a nice look at them as people and not just celebs. - Max Braden, 9:57 pm
The Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film goes to The Salesman. - Kim Hollis, 9:58 pm
Well, this should start something... - Reagen Sulewski, 9:58 pm
This win is interesting and the statement is well said. - Pete Kilmer, 9:59 pm
I may have to retire from Oscar prognosticating this year - J. Don Birnam, 9:59 pm
That was powerful. - Kelly Metz, 10:00 pm
Dev Patel is what Adam Driver would look like if he were handsome. - David Mumpower, 10:00 pm
It's a pity that the victory of a very worthy film, The Salesman, will be attributed to politics. Remember, it "beat" Toni Erdmann in Cannes, too. - Felipe Rosa, 10:02 pm
This Rolex ad plays like a parody of one of those weird montages they run. "And now, for a look at timepieces in the movies!" - Reagen Sulewski, 10:04 pm
New York Times: All in - Jason Dean, 10:05 pm
While Sting performs his Oscar-nominated song, here's the text of the speech written by Asghar Farhadi, the director of Best Foreign Language Film winner, The Salesman: "It's a great honor to be receiving this valuable award for the second time. I would like to thank the members of the Academy, my crew in Iran, my producer, Alexandre Mallet-Guy, Cohen Media, Amazon, and my fellow nominees in the Foreign Film category." - David Mumpower, 10:07 pm
"I'm sorry I'm not with you tonight. My absence is out of respect for the people of my country and those of other six nations whom have been disrespected by the inhumane law that bans entry of immigrants to the U.S. Dividing the world into the Us and Our Enemies categories creates fear, a deceitful justification for aggression and war. These wars prevent democracy and human rights in countries which have themselves been victims of aggression. - David Mumpower, 10:08 pm
"Filmmakers can turn their cameras to capture shared human qualities and break stereotypes of various nationalities and religions. They create empathy between us and others, an empathy which we need today more than ever." - David Mumpower, 10:08 pm
The Academy Award for Best Animated Short goes to Piper. - Kim Hollis, 10:08 pm
I'm really glad to see that Hailee Steinfeld's career didn't peak at 14. I think she's so talented. - Kelly Metz, 10:09 pm
Gael Garcia Bernal also comes in convenient pocket size. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:10 pm
The Academy Award for Best Animated Feature goes to Zootopia. - Kim Hollis, 10:11 pm
So much for anything other than Zootopia - Jason Dean, 10:12 pm
"We had the unique idea to make a movie with talking animals..." - Reagen Sulewski, 10:12 pm
While Zootopia is a terrific animated film, Kubo and the Two Strings is one you should really search out and enjoy. - Pete Kilmer, 10:12 pm
And if Rich Moore's voice sounds familiar to you, yes, he was the sour ball in Wreck-It-Ralph. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:13 pm
Hailee Steinfeld's single, Starving, almost hit the top ten! I think it peaked at #12. She's a multi-hyphenate now! - David Mumpower, 10:13 pm
Jamie Dornan is so unpleased to be on stage with her right now. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:13 pm
And now, the leads of the 50 Shades franchise demonstrate the undeniable chemistry that has made the films so...look, you get where I'm going with this. - David Mumpower, 10:13 pm
The Academy Award for Best Production Design goes to La La Land. - Kim Hollis, 10:14 pm
La La Land has caught up with Suicide Squad! You shouldn't have believed in miracles! - David Mumpower, 10:15 pm
The Color Purple finally pops that champagne. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:16 pm
You're on a Hollywood tour that's happening *while* the Oscars are taking place and you don't suspect anything? I have doubts about this. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:17 pm
La La Land is on the board, but the house is being brought down. Do I get something for being the website's Oscar "expert" and coming in last?! - J. Don Birnam, 10:19 pm
Oh, those stunts kill me.. - Felipe Rosa, 10:19 pm
"He's Denzel, so it's legal." - Max Braden, 10:19 pm
I don't care if this is staged or not; I am loving this. - Kelly Metz, 10:19 pm
Even Jimmy Kimmel's worst ideas are working out in the best possible way. 2017 is the Twilight Zone. - David Mumpower, 10:19 pm
What a fun little segment. - Pete Kilmer, 10:21 pm
We're almost to the two-hour mark of the Academy Awards. We've given out 11 out of 24 awards. It's time to follow the wisdom of Krusty the Clown and take some "legal, over the counter wake-up drugs". - David Mumpower, 10:25 pm
I will say this: it beats the thing with the locked box. - Felipe Rosa, 10:26 pm
I feel like I'm playing Name That Tune during the musical interludes, and the category is 1980s Soundtrack Singles. - David Mumpower, 10:27 pm
She's a presenter, isn't she? She presents. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:30 pm
The Academy Award for Best Visual Effects goes to The Jungle Book. - Kim Hollis, 10:31 pm
Wow...Jungle Book with a major steal over Dr. Strange and Star Wars Rogue One. - Pete Kilmer, 10:32 pm
Jungle Book's effects were really impressive, much more so than the cgi/live action also-ran remake of Pete's Dragon. - Max Braden, 10:32 pm
Note to self: don't quote Trump even for fun. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:33 pm
Halfway through the evening's awards, Ben Gruchow is leading the BOP predictions pool with nine out of 12, with a lot of people right behind him at eight. As JDB mentioned, he's currently tied for last...which WILL come up repeatedly over the next year if he doesn't stage a comeback. - David Mumpower, 10:34 pm
oh sure...Rogen has the Nike Back to the Future shoes! - Pete Kilmer, 10:34 pm
The Academy Award for Film Editing goes to Hacksaw Ridge. - Kim Hollis, 10:36 pm
With a killer series of jokes about Michael J. Fox and Hamilton, Seth Rogen just showed more creativity and cleverness than was present in the entirety of Neighbors 2. - David Mumpower, 10:36 pm
Is it me or should some of these nominee clips come with spoiler warnings? - Jason Dean, 10:37 pm
So, the sweep is decidedly not on. This is exactly the sort of award that La La Land wins in a run away. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:37 pm
"No, really, guys, working with Mel Gibson was fine." - Max Braden, 10:38 pm
Yeah, the film with a frontal shot in slo-mo of men running won Best Editing. As he said, unbelievable. - Felipe Rosa, 10:38 pm
As far as the predictions go, I'd point out that I was the only one who correctly picked Suicide Squad, but that's cancelled out by the fact that I missed the news that Zootopia was the Iron Clad Stone Cold Lock of the Week. - Tim Briody, 10:38 pm
That's better than Lion right there. - Felipe Rosa, 10:39 pm
Just being a recipient of a candy parachute is the true honor. - Max Braden, 10:40 pm
I still think that Sunny Pawar was deserving of a supporting nomination for Lion. - Kelly Metz, 10:41 pm
Now that the La La Land sweep is off, I wonder if Emma Stone's sweating a little bit. - David Mumpower, 10:41 pm
And now for the tiebreaker categories! - Reagen Sulewski, 10:43 pm
Eyes forward, David Oyelowo. Actually, we'll allow it. - Max Braden, 10:44 pm
The Academy Award for Best Documentary Short goes to The White Helmet. - Kim Hollis, 10:44 pm
And then when you see that there was a film about Syria and you didn't pick it... It's why you do research. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:46 pm
The Academy Award for Best Live Action Short goes to Sing. - Kim Hollis, 10:48 pm
And since Ben Gruchow has gotten two points on the randos while virtually everyone else got zero, I think he's already locked up the win this year. - David Mumpower, 10:49 pm
The number of notifications on Jimmy's phone's home bar gives me hives. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:51 pm
In celebration of [for the moment] leading the prediction pool, I am eating chocolate-covered strawberries in my pajamas. This is somewhat tempered by the fact that I would be eating chocolate-covered strawberries in my pajamas to celebrate that it's Sunday. - Ben Gruchow, 10:52 pm
"The Sci-Tech Awards ceremony is so special and prestigious that none of you were invited." - Leslie Mann - Max Braden, 10:53 pm
As a lifelong Atlanta Falcons fan, Ben, let me suggest to you to keep playing until the clock says zero. You'd be surprised how easily surmounted a seemingly insurmountable lead can be. - David Mumpower, 10:56 pm
The near-total inability to stream the Academy Awards unless you live in a major metropolitan area is beyond irritating. I get that ABC isn't exactly doing this stuff for free, but I would be exactly one of those people who would fork over the fee for a temporary live stream/PPV-style offering. - Ben Gruchow, 10:58 pm
I really like this pairing idea. - Felipe Rosa, 10:59 pm
The Academy Award for Best Cinematography goes to La La Land. - Kim Hollis, 10:59 pm
Win or lose, David, these things are not going to eat themselves. - Ben Gruchow, 10:59 pm
I know he's Espanish, but Javier always puts the em*pha*sis on such... a strange sy*lla*ble in a word. - Reagen Sulewski, 10:59 pm
Again, Cinematography was a category in which Hell or High Water was overlooked. - Max Braden, 11:00 pm
Here's something odd about tonight's awards. La La Land just joined Hacksaw Ridge as the only films with multiple wins so far. - David Mumpower, 11:01 pm
Nice one, Jimmy Kimmy.. - Felipe Rosa, 11:01 pm
Cross your fingers, the BOP Oscars Blog might get mentioned in Mean Tweets! - Max Braden, 11:01 pm
I actually thought that Arrival had better cinematography. But the discipline falls right into the category of "things La La Land rejuvenated in its genre". - Ben Gruchow, 11:03 pm
Jessica Chastain's Mean Tweet was awesome! - Felipe Rosa, 11:03 pm
Did Ryan Gosling lose a bet to wear that shirt? - Max Braden, 11:04 pm
Among the things that bothered me about all the praise for La La Land is that both of these feel like half a song. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:05 pm
This is a few minutes late, but...Reagen, did you just quote View From the Top? - Ben Gruchow, 11:05 pm
Not a fan of this presentation of the La La Land nominated songs. - Jason Dean, 11:07 pm
"Audition (The Fools Who Dream)" was so, so lovely in La La Land. (As was the pool party request for A Flock of Seagulls.) - Max Braden, 11:07 pm
Current performer/La La Land Executive Producer John Legend was also recently asked to vote in Sports Illustrated's end-of-year NFL awards. He was the only non-NFL person involved. I feel like he's living a more interesting life than the rest of us. - David Mumpower, 11:07 pm
I'll never tell, Ben. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:07 pm
The Academy Award for Best Original Score goes to La La Land. - Kim Hollis, 11:14 pm
Hamilton totally would have won if it'd been eligible, though. - David Mumpower, 11:15 pm
Scarlett always sounds sarcastic no matter what she says. "I am *soooo* happy to be here presenting..." - Reagen Sulewski, 11:17 pm
The Academy Award for Best Original Song goes to City of Stars, La La Land. - Kim Hollis, 11:17 pm
And the Oscar goes to Justin - no, the other Justin... - Max Braden, 11:18 pm
We just escaped disaster. Little did anyone know that if Lin-Manuel Miranda got his EGOT, that would be the last step towards his ascension to his final form. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:19 pm
"And my date tonight, who let me..." Yes, they were right to start playing the music loudly at that moment. The next words out of his mouth could have caused problems. - David Mumpower, 11:19 pm
Lin-Manuel Miranda has to wait for his EGOT. Which is fine, since he's only 37. I'm also 37 and consider today a success because I remembered to do laundry. - Tim Briody, 11:20 pm
Glad to hear mention of Bill Paxton at the start of this segment. - Max Braden, 11:20 pm
Buckle in guys, this could go on for a while. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:21 pm
2016 was a garbage year. - Kim Hollis, 11:24 pm
I don't know what the numbers are in other years, but there were 45 names shown on screen this year. - Max Braden, 11:25 pm
The Academy of course left out a bunch of people that deserved to be in the video. Robert Vaughn for one. - Pete Kilmer, 11:25 pm
Of all the things that 2016 2016'd, the one that brings me to tears is the one-two punch of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds. What a sucky year. - Felipe Rosa, 11:27 pm
Since someone else brought it up, my favorite Bill Paxton performance wasn't an acting job. It was when he agreed to go 20,000 leagues under the sea in Ghosts of the Abyss. He was in a one-man vessel and basically couldn't move during the expedition. While he understandably had a couple of claustrophobic moments, he did everything on the checklist. How James Cameron talked him into it, I don't know. - David Mumpower, 11:27 pm
I can't believe I didn't see this bit coming. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:29 pm
Oh, that's some good trolling right there. - Kelly Metz, 11:29 pm
"And guest".. lol - Felipe Rosa, 11:29 pm
Fun fact: this is the first time since they won their Oscar that Matt and Ben have been together. The stuff in Jay and Silent Bob and Dogma? All CGI. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:29 pm
Oh my god. Best comic Oscar moment ever. - Felipe Rosa, 11:30 pm
The Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay goes to Manchester by the Sea. - Kim Hollis, 11:31 pm
I had an issue at the selection of score over dialogue for Manchester by the Sea so tip of the cap to the score winning - Jason Dean, 11:32 pm
That is a deserved Oscar for Manchester - J. Don Birnam, 11:32 pm
BOP's Calvin Award for Best Screenplay (adapted or original) went to Arrival. - Max Braden, 11:34 pm
The Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay goes to Moonlight. - Kim Hollis, 11:34 pm
The director of the show really appreciates their motor-mouth speaking style. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:35 pm
Man, Barry Jenkins just nailed his speech and in record time. That was fantastic. - David Mumpower, 11:35 pm
Despite the somewhat cooky tech categories, the main categories so far are going as expected. They've spread the love to the main three movies of the year. La La Land probably still wins, but they're nervous. - J. Don Birnam, 11:36 pm
Screenplay (of either stripe) is the second most common bellwether for Best Picture winners, behind Best Director, for what it's worth. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:36 pm
Man, Ben Affleck has an Alec Baldwin thing happening. The last couple of years have not been kind. - David Mumpower, 11:38 pm
Third most is Editing, which isn't much help. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:39 pm
Looking at Halle Berry, I just instinctively thought "I have had just about enough of your sass, young lady!" - Reagen Sulewski, 11:41 pm
It was brave of Halle Berry to show up tonight after she lost a fight with a hooded hair dryer. - David Mumpower, 11:42 pm
The Academy Award for Best Director goes to Damien Chazelle, La La Land. - Kim Hollis, 11:42 pm
I had no idea that Damien Chazelle was dating Bjork. - David Mumpower, 11:43 pm
It's coming up on 11:45pm on the East coast. The longest Oscar ceremony on record took 4 hrs 23 minutes in March 2002 (Whoopi Goldberg hosting). - Max Braden, 11:44 pm
With only three categories left, I think we'll be done by midnight on the East Coast. The show's been lively. There are just too many awards. They need to move some of the lesser awards off the main telecast. - David Mumpower, 11:47 pm
I think Viggo Mortensen brought Meatloaf as his date. - David Mumpower, 11:50 pm
The Academy Award for Best Actor goes to Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea. - Kim Hollis, 11:51 pm
No one to blame but myself for listening to the pundits! - J. Don Birnam, 11:51 pm
Accepting the award: Al Pacino from the 70s. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:52 pm
If hate were people, Denzel would be China! - Kelly Metz, 11:52 pm
"Man I wish I had something bigger and more meaningful to say." "That's fine, sit down and shut up Denzel!" - Max Braden, 11:53 pm
Something I've always loved is that Ben Affleck isn't one of Ocean's Eleven, but Casey is. And here's a great trivia question for you. He's the first member of that group to win as a lead actor. Clooney won for Supporting Actor, while Pitt, Cheadle, and Damon have yet to win acting Oscars. - David Mumpower, 11:55 pm
So you're saying Jake Busey still has a chance! - Reagen Sulewski, 11:56 pm
The Academy Award for Best Actress goes to Emma Stone, La La Land. - Kim Hollis, 11:57 pm
Somewhere there's an hours-long reel of actors breaking during takes on the Florence Foster Jenkins set. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:57 pm
I'll give Meryl Streep every Oscar from now until the end of time if she promises never to sing that way again. - David Mumpower, 11:57 pm
Undeserved, sorry - J. Don Birnam, 11:58 pm
For such an exciting beginning, the awards are ending in a flat blah, no? - J. Don Birnam, 11:58 pm
I disagree with JDB - Jason Dean, 11:59 pm
It's sort of a structural problem with the Oscars. After 3+ hours, people are ready for it to be done. - Reagen Sulewski, 11:59 pm
You know, just like The Hours. - Reagen Sulewski, 12:00 am
Doesn't help that there aren't any tossups among the major categories this year. - Tim Briody, 12:03 am
It is later here and I don't mind one bit. But go ahead and kill Best Song, that mostly has nothing to do with filmmaking. - Felipe Rosa, 12:04 am
That's 6 for La La, will be seven if it wins this. Not a bad haul and it makes sense to have 7 - J. Don Birnam, 12:04 am
- Felipe Rosa, 12:04 am
You don't need to be Louise Banks to know what's going to happen next. - Max Braden, 12:05 am
The Academy Award for Best Picture goes to La La Land. - Kim Hollis, 12:08 am
And there it is! It's been a fun year folks, I hope everyone had as much fun as I did! - J. Don Birnam, 12:08 am
In terms of Academy Award predictions, Ben Gruchow does win with 18 out of 24, beating Jason Lee and me by two (which is a blowout). Reagen suffers a year of taunting for his cellar dwelling. Overall, BOP's staff accurately predicted 9 out of the 11 major categories, missing only Best Actor, where we favored Denzel Washington over Casey Affleck 9-5, and Moonlight...which we -think- won Best Picture. Folks, that was the weirdest thing in the history of the Oscars. - David Mumpower, 12:09 am
The Hours list is continuing. I'm still watching you. - J. Don Birnam, 12:10 am
WHAT - Reagen Sulewski, 12:11 am
WHAAAAAAAT - Reagen Sulewski, 12:11 am
HOLY SHIT - J. Don Birnam, 12:11 am
OMG. Best awards show ever - Jason Dean, 12:11 am
Wow! - Felipe Rosa, 12:11 am
Holy crap, they misread the card? How? - Max Braden, 12:11 am
HOW - Reagen Sulewski, 12:11 am
Wait...what? - Kelly Metz, 12:11 am
WOW - Pete Kilmer, 12:12 am
Er, the Academy Award for Best Picture goes to Moonlight. - Kim Hollis, 12:12 am
Well now we know Marisa Tomei earned hers. - Reagen Sulewski, 12:12 am
Double wow. - Felipe Rosa, 12:13 am
WHAT THE HELL!? - J. Don Birnam, 12:13 am
I was trying to figure out what the people were doing walking around in the background there. - Kim Hollis, 12:13 am
Stunning. Absolutely stunning. - Pete Kilmer, 12:13 am
So as Warren Beatty explains it, he opened the card and it said "Emma Stone - La La Land" - Max Braden, 12:13 am
Holy shit this is going to be an insane thing in the news - J. Don Birnam, 12:13 am
The producer of La La Land stating that he wanted to hand the award to the Moonlight team; up there with the most grace under pressure performances ever - Jason Dean, 12:14 am
So, after a nearly flawless show, that happens. I just... - Kim Hollis, 12:15 am
And honestly, they were right the first time. - Felipe Rosa, 12:15 am
I've always hated Warren Beatty. Now, I feel justified. He actually threw Faye Dunaway under the bus by making her say La La Land. - David Mumpower, 12:16 am
True, David - Felipe Rosa, 12:18 am
The La La Land crew handled that in a very classy way. - Pete Kilmer, 12:18 am
Man, La La Land gave an acceptance speech. The Atlanta Falcons already have company this year. - David Mumpower, 12:18 am
It's the 2016 election all over again. - Kim Hollis, 12:20 am
Felipe, I agree with you. Moonlight was near the bottom of my list this year. - Kelly Metz, 12:20 am
"And finally, the results of all the secret voting are known only to the independent accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers until the sealed envelopes are opened on the air." - Max Braden, 12:20 am
Who takes the fall for this? PWC? - J. Don Birnam, 12:20 am
It's my understanding that La La Land just blew a 3-1 lead in the finals. Rough year, folks. - Tim Briody, 12:21 am
IF you look back - Warren was looking for something else, he realized there was a mistake and Faye took it from him, so the mistake was clearly PWC's with the envelope no? - J. Don Birnam, 12:21 am
Yeah, it was definitely on PWC. Beatty didn't want to read it. - Kim Hollis, 12:22 am
For a moment there, I truly, truly believed that Warren Beatty was a sleight-of-hand magician. In any case, everyone should go rent the best picture of the year: Hell or High Water. - Max Braden, 12:22 am
In doing a Zapruder film of the La La Land acceptance speech, the balding gentleman on the right side of the screen figures it out first, locks eyes with the balding gentleman on the left side of the screen, and shows concern. Then, a guy with a headset comes up with an envelope and shows them. This will be a meme from now until the end of time. - David Mumpower, 12:22 am
Perhaps we can take a closer look at the envelopes for Hacksaw Ridge wins, too? - Felipe Rosa, 12:23 am
Also, Ryan Gosling kind of does a fist bump and mouths, "Yay, Moonlight!" - David Mumpower, 12:24 am
Okay, that's the blog for today, but we're obviously going to be talking about this for a while. In the meantime, be sure to go out and see Get Out and the current leading contender for Academy Award for Best Picture Rock Dog. Good night, everyone! - Kim Hollis, 12:27 am
One thing that's definitely happening now is that the Director/Picture team up is cracking, in a big way. That's four out of the last five that split, when the average was once a decade up until the 2010s. - Reagen Sulewski, 12:27 am
One other note when you watch the video of this: look for 70-year-old, returned from the future Matt Damon on the right side of the screen behind Warren Beatty when they announce the reversal. - David Mumpower, 12:29 am
"No, I was too late!" - Reagen Sulewski, 12:32 am
