It was another big week for SPECTRE, as the third best Daniel Craig Bond film remained number one with a massive $152.6 million. $48 million of that came from China, which is the biggest opening weekend ever for a 2D-only Hollywood film in the country. It should outgross Skyfall's total there of $59.2 million pretty handily, which could be the boost that it needs to reach $1 billion worldwide. It still has a way to go, though, since its international total is currently $413.1 million while its global one is $543.8 million.

In second is the Bollywood romance Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, which also managed to break into the top ten in the US on fewer than 300 screens, at least in part because of a lack of decent competition. It earned $31 million overseas this weekend.

South Korean thriller The Priests is third this week with $9.3 million. It has so far earned $25 million from local audiences.

Close behind in fourth place in Hotel Transylvania 2, which added $8.9 million for a running total of $252.6 million from international audiences. Its global total of $417.8 million is a new high for writer/star Adam Sandler, and a highlight of his patchy recent run of films.

Rounding out the top five is the Chinese romance A Journey Through Time With Anthony, a film whose title goes from grand to unimpressive remarkably quickly. It earned $6 million.

Another Chinese film is in sixth place as The Ex-Files 2: The Back Up Strikes Back earned $5.5 million. The comedy sequel has now earned $34 million after two weeks in release.

The Martian is seventh with $5.3 million. That brings the Ridley Scott/Matt Damon team-up's international total to $270 million, while globally it's sitting just shy of half a billion dollars with $477.4 million. That's got to be encouraging news for Universal, which is banking on Damon to help revive the Bourne franchise next summer.

Nipping at The Martian's heels is The Last Witch Hunter, which earned $5.2 million. The Vin Diesel vehicle has now earned $70 million internationally and $96 million globally, neither of which are good enough considering that it cost $90 million to produce.

In ninth is Pan, a film that still exists. The fantastically unsuccessful prequel earned $3.9 million, which brings its overseas total to $86.1 million. With a global total of $119.3 million and no signs of rallying, Pan will go down as one of the biggest misfires of 2015, assuming that anyone remembers it come December 31st.

Finally this week we have the British drama The Lady in the Van. Based on the true story of writer/playwright/raconteur Alan Bennett's friendship with a homeless woman who lived in a van on his driveway for many years, the film earned $3.5 million, and could shape up to be a modest hit based on charming premise and the reviews for Maggie Smith's performance.
