That's a bit more like it. After a few pretty quiet frames, we've got a couple of more lively films this weekend and a new champion. Well, an old champion, really, because our number one film is Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which earned $91.3 million, $86 million of which came from a massive debut in China. That's the largest of Tom Cruise's career in that country, as well as a new highpoint for the Mission: Impossible series: Ghost Protocol earned just over $100 million there during its entire run back in 2011. Rogue Nation's new international total is $424.8 million, while its global total is $612.9 million. It should be able to get close to, if not exceed, $700 million before everything is said and done.

In second place is Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, which opened in a few territories ahead of its US debut and earned $26.8 million. The same strategy was used for the first Maze Runner film, which ended up earning $243 million this time last year. We should probably expect to see a somewhat stronger result this time considering the speed with which the sequel was produced and the generally favorable response to the original.

Minions is third with $26.1 million, most of which came from its debut in China, where it earned $20.1 million on its opening day. That's already the biggest opening for an animated movie in Chinese box office history, and makes it the second biggest animated film ever there, behind only Frozen ($48.2 million). It'll almost certainly take that record, possibly within the next few days. Its new overseas total stands at $748.5 million, and $800 million is very much in play at this point.

Fourth is the German comedy Fack ju Gohte 2, about a class who goes on a trip to Thailand with the intention of improving the reputation of their school. Hijinks probably ensue. It earned $20 million this weekend and has a total so far of $21.2 million.

After those four moderate-to-big hits, the rest of the chart is all very closely bunched together. Fifth place is a tie between Inside Out and Legend, the crime drama in which Tom Hardy doubles down on being Tom Hardy by playing both of the notorious Kray twins, a pair of gangsters who terrorized the East End of London during the '50s and '60s (and who were previously played by Martin and Gary Kemp, of Spandau Ballet fame, in the 1990 film The Krays). Both films earned $5.3 million, and while Legend is only getting started, Inside out has a total of $395.9 million.

Seventh place results in another tie, this time between The Transporter: Refueled and Pixels. Both films earned $5.2 million, giving the Ed Skrein vehicle a total of $12.5 million and the videogame nostalgia-fest one of $127.5 million.

Ninth belongs to Ant-Man, which gets it all to itself with $5.1 million. That gives the Marvel film an overseas total of $218.6 million, and globally it's left just $6 million shy of $400 million.

Hitman: Agent 47 rounds out the chart with $5 million, bringing the videogame reboot's international total to $52.5 million. It should manage to overtake the first Hitman's international total of $60.2 million within the next week or so.
